“Don't wake Jeremy.”
“You woke me,” Cat replies.
“Yeah but you like me”
“Debatable.”
I grin. Then her voice turns serious.
“Layla.”
“What?”
“This could be huge.”
My heart beats a little faster.
“I know.”
“No. I mean huge. Thirty days embedded with Mitchell Knight? If the access is real and we can negotiate enough editorial independence, this could be the biggest piece you've ever done.”
“I know.”
“But if the contract lets him dictate the story, we walk.”
My stomach drops a little. Because she's right.
“Agreed.”
“And if you find something he doesn't want you to find?”
I look down at the NDA again. At Mitchell Knight's name printed across the paperwork.
“That,” I say slowly, “is exactly why I want to go.”
Cat groans.
“I knew you were going to say that.”
“He's hiding something.”
“Everybody's hiding something.”
“Exactly.”
“And you can't resist digging.”
“Nope.”
“Fine. Send me everything. I'll get legal moving.”
“Thank you.”
“And Layla?”
“Yeah?”
“Do not sleep with your source.”
