Securing His Obsession

“I think I’d like it if you were mine,” she whispered.

Chapter

Twenty-Two

Damon looked down at the sleeping woman in his bed. Her hair spread across the pillow. Long dark lashes creating half-moons against her cheeks. Soft pink lips, still a little puffy from the kisses they’d shared throughout the night.

He hadn’t been able to control himself when she’d whispered that she liked the idea of him being hers. He’d hauled her onto his lap and ravished her. Their clothes had ended up all over the living room, and he’d taken her hard and fast on the couch, before scooping her up and taking her to his room, where he’d spent the night showing her what he couldn’t say out loud.

The connection he had with Margot was like an invisible thread between them, tightening and getting stronger with every moment they spent together.

What he wanted was to spend the day doing things normal couples did—go shopping for food. Watching television. Talking a walk. Or just sitting together and not saying anything.

He couldn’t do that though. He’d promised Indigo he would go into the office and keep an eye on Wilt and make sure that he wasn’t overdoing it. The fact Wilt was also trying to trace the person who’d placed the tracking device in Margot’s car, made cancelling out of the question.

Margot stirred under his gaze, and her eyelids fluttered. She stretched, the sheet dipping low to expose the tops of her breasts; her nipples peaking against the cotton. “Morning,” she mumbled, as her sleep-fused eyes connected with his.

“Morning.” He bent down and brushed his lips across hers, light and quickly, so that he didn’t get lured into forgetting his good intentions.

Did she have any idea how alluring she looked?

How tempting?

He didn’t think so. Even after everything they’d done together, there was still a certain naivety about her that he found attractive.

“You’re dressed,” she pouted, in an adorable way.

He chuckled. “I am. I’m meeting Wilt at the office.”

She sat up, tucking the sheet tightly under her arms. “Oh right, I forgot about that. How long will you be?”

“Not sure, but I hope to be back by early afternoon. Why, was there something you needed to do?”

“No. I thought I might go to my place, though. It’s probably all dusty and needs to be aired out.”

Damon didn’t like the idea of her going there without him, considering it was one of the places the person following her had taken pictures of her. Then again, they’d also taken pictures of his house, so leaving her alone here didn’t sit well with him either, even with his security system.

“You don’t like that idea, do you?” she said, after the silence stretched between them. Her chin lifting a fraction as if daring him to lie to her.

“If I’m honest, no I don’t. But I also know that you’re not stupid, and you’re not going to do anything that’s going to put you in danger.”

Her eyes widened, as though surprised by his admission. “Thank you. And I’ve got no plans to go anywhere other than my house. It won’t take me long to clean it, it’s not huge.”

Damon liked her unit, it was cozy and homey, and fit Margot to a T. But he much preferred her at his house. It didn’t seem so lonely, or empty, anymore. He liked seeing her stuff in his bathroom. Her sweater tossed over the back of a chair in the kitchen. He liked her presence in his personal space, full stop. “Take however long you need. Besides, you’ve got cameras up, so it’s as safe as this place.” Not quite as safe, but it was a concession that would put his mind at ease.

Now that he had Margot, he didn’t want to let her go, but he also couldn’t keep her glued to his side, no matter how much he might want to.

“That was hard to admit, wasn’t it?” A cheeky grin lit up her features, and again, he was tempted to blow off Wilt and climb back into bed with her and convince her to stay with him forever.

Is there ever a right time to tell someone you’d fallen in love with them?

The thought flitted through his mind, and he decided there was, and it was when it felt right. Like this moment with her looking deliciously rumpled and sexy.

He plopped down on the bed, hauling her close. He smoothed her hair off her face and stared into her beautiful green eyes. “I tried so hard to stay away,” he stated, unsure where the words were coming from, but knowing now that he’d started, they were the right ones. “You tempt me in a way that makes me want to always have you close. But, before, I thought doing so could be the worst thing for you. So, I stayed away. I didn’t allow myself to get close to you. But it was so hard to do so, and when you were shot…” He paused and looked at the ceiling before dropping his gaze down to hers. “I don’t want to live that moment again. The thought of something happening to you had me rethinking everything. I couldn’t stay away.”

Tears shimmered in her eyes, and her hand rested over his chest. “Damon,” she whispered his name, and it had never sounded so beautiful.

“I’m telling you all this, because I want you to know that I love you, Margot. You are my everything.”
