She couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “You should know me better than that by now.”

“My little tigress,” he said, the words a soft caress. “So protective of your brother when he did nothing to deserve it.”

Standing on her toes, she brought their mouths together. “Silly. I’m protective of you.”

He didn’t answer right away. When he did, his voice came out strangled. “Ready?”

“Ready.”

Hand in hand, they strolled the remaining steps to the front door.

Oliver rang the bell.

It didn’t appear to work.

He knocked.

Silence.

“Probably out looking for your brother like everyone else,” Oliver grumbled.

Addy narrowed her eyes at him. “You’re a funny, funny man.”

“I’ve been told I had a good sense of humor once upon a time.” Oliver stilled. “I think I hear something.”

As they waited, Addison pressed into his side. She’d never felt this urge to be close to anyone before. It was a frightening feeling—one she refused to get used to. “What if Caity is somewhere with Kyle?”

The shuffle of footsteps inside answered before he could. When the door opened, a teenager stood there, all elbows and annoyance. “What do you want?”

Addison put on her game face. “We’re looking for Caity O’Halloran.”

“Why?”

“My name is Addison Yarrow—”

The teen’s sharp intake of breath said enough. “Wait here.” He slammed the door in their faces.

Less than a minute later, the door swung open again and a petite brunette stared at them through mistrustful, almond-shaped eyes.

Addison’s gaze traveled to her protruding stomach. “Oh God. You’re pregnant too?”

Caity’s brows drew together. “Are you pregnant?”

“No. I’m not. But… is that my brother’s baby?”

Caity’s mouth formed an O. “Definitely not. But this baby is due any day and I’d quite like to be legally married to his father first. Where the hell is your brother?”

Addison had the exact same question.

Refusing to prevaricate, she answered directly. “I don’t know. He hasn’t replied to me in months.”

Caity moved her belligerent gaze to Oliver. “And who might you be?”

“I’m also looking for him.”

Her brother’s second wife threw up her hands. “No surprise there. Who isn’t? Wait. I know you. Kyle hit you with his car. They ruled it an accident.”

“It wasn’t an accident. He’d been drinking. I was crossing the street and he didn’t see me.”
