“You kissed me the first day.” Accusation dripped from each word.

“I told you the truth—the cab driver made me uncomfortable and he was watching.” But she’d heard how it sounded. She’d be suspicious too.

“All you’ve done since coming here is lie.” He sounded painfully tired. “I should have known. Can’t trust a Yarrow.” Finally, he looked at her. “Get out.”

“What?” She couldn’t have heard correctly. They needed to talk, to figure this out.

“You heard me. Get the fuck out of my house.”

Frosty blue met her gaze. And yet beneath all the anger, the detachment, she recognized Oliver.

“You can’t mean that.”

“I do. Get your shit and go.”

She took a step toward him. “Oliver—”

“Get. Out.” He was off the bed and at the window before she could reach him. His back to her, he stared at the pastures.

Addison debated turning him away from the glass, demanding they hash it all out now, but he wasn’t ready. Not yet. Maybe not ever.

Despite everything, he’d come to trust her. He’d not have opened up to her, wouldn’t have shared so much with her, otherwise.

She’d shattered that trust.

Chapter 41

Fucking hell. Just when he’d allowed himself to feel normal again, to feel human, it all crashed down. His time with Addison had been nothing but a lie.

The only reason she’d endured being with him was because she needed to find her brother. The rest of it—the kissing, the sex, the way she’d looked at him—was pretend. He should have known better.

His own family was complicit.

Cab driver, his ass. She’d kissed him to ensure she stayed, and he, like a fool, let her.

His hands shook with the effort to not punch the wall.

Addy didn’t see anything in him besides a means to an end. She didn’t look past his disfigurement. She closed her eyes and thought of other things.

Fuck Addison. Fuck Hayes. He needed them both far away from him. Hayes could go back home, and Addison could go wherever the hell she wanted. He couldn’t look at her again—he’d see her beautiful face and think of her lies.

Addison didn’t blame Oliver.

After all, she did come here under false pretenses—lied to his face that she hadn’t met any of his siblings before. Yet again, he got screwed by a Yarrow.

Maybe Hayes could drop her off to Dublin on his way back to the airport.

Walking into her bedroom, she got dressed before unzipping her empty suitcase. Damn. Her laptop was still in Oliver’s room.

When she returned for her device, he didn’t even look at her.

Laptop collected, she came back to her room and packed, refusing to cry.

Of course Oliver would react this way. He felt betrayed. Betrayed by her, by his family.

Maybe someday he’d understand. Not that she’d hold her breath.
