His brow quirks.
“What’s that mean?”
My eyelids are heavy. He wore me down to the bone.
“Whatever you want it to mean,” I yawn.
He laughs softly. “Go to sleep, I’ll leave before it gets light.”
CHAPTER FOUR
JAMIE
My alarm beeps behind me.
Blinking, I flip my arm and swipe it off. It’s four in the morning, and I’m in Serena Maxwell’s bed.
I take quick stock of how I feel. Deep down, I know I should be guilty about it. Coen is serious with Sabrina; they’ll probably get married at some point. Which means Serena is basically his sister-in-law. I don’t think he’d like me waltzing in here, when I was supposed to be checking on them, and fucking Serena after a brief conversation. I doubt he would care to listen to my excuse. Now it’s said and done, it sounds silly to say she’s the first person I’ve felt attracted to in a long time.
Sex, I’ve had plenty of it. Attraction kinda went out the window when I got so busy I could barely breathe.
For a long time, everything was a blur.
Then, Coen took a break because he couldn’t handle the pressures of being one of the country music industry’s biggest songwriters and producers. I was the agent who got him to superstardom. Something about seeing him fall for Sabrina and lose interest in everything he built made me take a big mental step back.
All the plane ride to Wyoming, my head churned.
Maybe I fell into bed with her because she felt like the first real thing I’ve seen in a while. Or because I finally stopped rushing, looked up, and there she was.
I roll over. She’s curled up, facing me. The sheet has slid off, revealing her naked side.
God, she is so fucking pretty.
I could be overthinking this whole damn thing. She’s stunning—of course I want to sleep with her. She’s my type. I like how touch-and-go she is, how prickly she got the second I started pushing her buttons. Like a cat arching its back. Or popping out its claws. Then, when I fucked her, how it melted away long enough to show me something else.
I bend in, kissing the side of her neck. Her lips part, eyelids fluttering.
Our eyes meet. I freeze, shocked by the sudden tingle in my veins.
“Oh no,” she mumbles.
“Oh no?” I have to keep my voice strangled so I don’t laugh out loud.
She pushes her face into the pillow. “We shouldn’t have done this. What if people find out?”
That’s a thought in my head, too. It’s getting more and more distant the longer I look at her naked side, one arm tucked over her breasts. She huffs as she rolls onto her back and drapes the same arm over her face, like she can hide from what we did. My gaze follows her breasts, entranced. God, they are perfect. And I’m not strong enough to get up and walk away.
“They won’t find out if we don’t tell them,” I say.
She doesn’t move.
“I’ll be gone before anyone is up,” I say, bending down.
She still doesn’t move, even when my breath grazes her breasts. Slowly, giving her time to push me away, I dip my head. She doesn’t move when I kiss her lightly between her breasts. Then, with a little more intensity.
“Give me one more time,” I whisper.
She moans softly. I turn my head left and curl my tongue over her hard nipple.
