But it was Mr. Lane’s name on the screen.

I exhaled hard and swiped to answer.

“Hey, Mr. Lane.”

“Did you track down Silas?”

“Yes, I’m right here with him.”

To that, Silas shot me a devilish little smile. Then slowly, deliberately, knowing exactly what he was doing, he slipped his fingers into his mouth, his eyes sliding closed and a primal sound escaping him as he tasted me.

My knees nearly buckled.

“Well?” Mr. Lane barked in my ear.

“Well, what?” I asked.

My brain was not cooperating.

Seeming to sense the struggle, Silas reached out. Plucking the phone from my hand, he put it up to his own ear.

“I have signed your contracts,” he announced as he reached out toward me. His thumb traced my lower lip, the barely-there touch making my belly flip-flop. “I wasn’t sure at first. But Maggie can be… persuasive.”

I had absolutely nothing to do with persuading him. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to talk me up to our boss or if he was being flirty.

“Yes?” I asked. I was already breathless.

“I need those papers immediately.”

“Of course.”

Silas’s hand slid up, covering my breast, squeezing, as his teeth grazed my throat.

“You’re on your way now then?”

“Y…yes.”

“Good. I’ll be waiting outside.”

I wasn’t even sure if the line went dead before I let out a little whimper. I didn’t even care.

Before I could wrap my head around what was happening, Silas reached for the door and yanked it open.

He stepped behind it as sunlight spilled into the room.

For a moment, I stared at that door, imagining him behind it, debating slamming it again, grabbing his hand, and dragging him with me to bed.

But Mr. Lane was waiting.

On shaky legs, I moved into the doorway.

Then, with nothing left to do, I turned and made my way down the stairs.

It wasn’t until I was around the building and out of sight that I leaned back against it, sucking in several gulps of air.
