“Oh my God, I love this song!” Madeleine is already on her feet before the words finish leaving her mouth. “We’re dancing!”
“Agreed.” Alina downs the rest of her drink and stands beside her. “Come on, you two. What are you waiting for?”
“I don’t know…” I start to say, glancing over the railing where more people gather on the dance floor.
“Please?” Alina clasps her hands together. “Please. Please. Please.”
“She’s not going to stop.” Scarlett drains the last sip from her glass and sets it on the table. Then she loops her arm through mine. “Let’s go make our men jealous.”
I arch a brow. “That sounds like a dangerous idea.”
“That’s because it is.” She winks.
Madeleine grins. “I already like this plan.”
Before I can protest further, Scarlett starts pulling me toward the stairs with the others.
I glance over my shoulder, my gaze colliding with Alex’s.
The low lighting casts shadows across his face, making him look even more dangerous than usual.
The intensity in his eyes sends a rush of heat through me.
Trying to ignore the sudden flutter in my stomach, I let Scarlett lead me downstairs toward the crowded dance floor.
We squeeze between bodies, making our way to the center, the crowd parting around us as if fearful of getting too close.
And the moment I look up, I understand why.
Five of the most dangerous men I’ve ever known stand along the mezzanine railing above us, their knuckles tightening around the railing as their eyes darken.
“Oh, this is going to be fun.” Madeleine grins mischievously, her hips swaying to the beat.
Eli leans closer to the barrier, his eyes glued to Madeleine like she’s his favorite show to watch.
Beside him, Alex’s gaze finds mine, his eyes skimming down my body from head to toe, igniting every inch of my skin. Heat rushes through me as everything around me disappears. The music. The people.
It’s just him and me.
“Charlotte?”
I glance behind me, finding the others waiting for me to dance with them. Hesitantly, I turn, my body slowly trying to match their rhythm.
“He’s watching.” Scarlett stares above my head. A knowing smile spreads across her face. “And he looks one second away from storming down here.”
I peek over my shoulder as a man steps a little too close behind me. Alex’s jaw tightens, his knuckles whitening against the metal as he watches. The look in his stormy eyes sends the stranger on his way, disappearing out of sight.
My pulse flutters, my heart too loud in my ears.
“Ohhh,” Scarlett says, looking between us.
“What?”
Her grin widens. “You like it.”
My cheeks redden. “Of course not.”
“You do,” she says matter-of-factly. “There’s nothing wrong with that.”
