After leaving the safe house, Tyler drove back to the office and picked up Zane. Then they headed to SoHo and the Pilates studio run by Frank Conover's ex-wife, Tiffany Earle Conover. Along the way, Zane caught him up on the latest info from the office.
"We found footage of a van entering an underground garage about four blocks away from the laundromat," Zane said. "There are two entrances and exits to that garage, but the van didn't appear to leave."
"They probably ditched it."
"Alina and Cole are headed to the garage now. Even if they ditched the van, they may have left evidence behind."
"Long shot, but you never know."
"Alina gave me more information about Conover's friendly Russian oligarch, Ivan Zvaitsev. He's been under scrutiny for years, but he has managed to keep his hands clean. He also never comes to the US, but he is in business with Russian and Chinese companies. She'll see if she can find additional connections between Zvaitsev and Conover."
"Great. We have China and Russia in the mix. This might be the biggest trouble Jack has ever gotten himself into."
"How's he doing?"
"Better. Head is clearing up. Memories still fragmented. Three members of my team are now at the safe house watching over him. They're trying to get him to remember the location of the warehouse. I know he feels safe with them, so hopefully that will help unlock his brain."
"Nice to have a team to back you up. Do you miss it? The Army? Your former unit?"
"I don't miss the Army. I do miss them, the time we had together, with no one else around. But we've moved on. And I have a new team now."
"We're turning out to be a good group," Zane said.
"I agree. We're starting to get a rhythm. It actually happened faster than I thought it would."
"Facing danger together is usually good for bonding."
He smiled at Zane's tone, realizing more and more that the former Wall Street guy had a dry wit that he enjoyed. "It does do that," he agreed as he turned down the street and looked for a parking spot.
The Pilates studio was modern and trendy, and its owner, Tiffany Conover, was just finishing up a small group class when they arrived shortly before two. Tiffany was a stunningly pretty blonde dressed in a crop top and leggings that showed off her exceptionally fit body. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail, and her perfectly made-up face looked like it had seen some plastic surgery.
The women filing out of her class seemed in very much the same mold. All appeared to be in their twenties or thirties with branded workout wear, perfect faces and damn near perfect bodies.
"I should have signed up for Pilates," Zane murmured. "I had no idea this was what the class looked like."
He smiled as Zane's gaze settled on the pretty dark-haired woman talking to Tiffany. She had legs for days and all the right curves. "Settle down," he said. "We're here to work."
Zane grinned. "I can do two things at the same time."
"Bye, Vivienne," Tiffany said. "Tell Neil I'd still love to see him even though Frank and I are no longer together."
"I will. He's just busy. We'll plan dinner soon."
"Neil?" Tyler murmured. "Is she talking about Levitan?"
Zane shrugged. "Maybe."
The woman gave them a friendly smile as she walked through the vestibule and out to her car.
Tiffany stopped in front of them, giving them a curious look. "Is one of you Zane McDougal? Neither of you looks dressed for a workout," she said.
"That would be me," Zane said. "And we're not here for a workout." He pulled out his badge. "I'm actually Special Agent McDougal, and this is Special Agent Brennan. We need to speak to you for a moment."
"Is this about Frank?"
"Can we talk in private?"
"Sure. Come into my office." She led them to a glass-walled office next to the reception area. She sat down at a small desk that held a computer and a stack of flyers for an upcoming event and waved them to the two hard chairs in front of her. "What can I do for you?"
