I just miss her.
Thankfully, Ivy is only twenty minutes away.
Although, life looks a little different for her now too.
Just yesterday she became Charlie’s mom, and somewhere between the middle-of-the-night feedings, diaper changes, and trying to remember what uninterrupted sleep feels like, her entire world shifted.
As it should.
Gray’s right there beside her, completely obsessed with both of his girls.
Again, as he should be.
They’re going to be incredible parents.
I just don’t envy them.
Over the years I’ve spent hundreds of hours sitting across from exhausted moms and overwhelmed dads, listening as they tried to balance careers, marriages, soccer practices, homework, and the impossible pressure of wondering whether they’re getting any of it right.
I’ve celebrated pregnancies.
I’ve walked couples through miscarriages.
I’ve helped parents navigate everything from toddler tantrums to teenagers who suddenly stopped talking.
After enough of those conversations, I reached a conclusion about my own life.
Kids aren’t for me.
Not because I dislike them.
I don’t.
I actually think they’re pretty great.
In small doses.
The best part about someone else’s kid is eventually handing them back.
Maybe that makes me selfish.
Maybe it just makes me honest.
Either way, I’ve never pictured motherhood when I imagined my future.
My phone buzzes against the comforter, pulling me back to the present.
Luke
So...now that you’ve confirmed I’m a real person, are you still up for that coffee date?
I catch myself grinning at my phone like an idiot.
Apparently the accidental wrong number has officially become a planned coffee.
I type back before I can overthink it.
