I look down at the empty message.

Then I type.

Hi, Paul. My name is Olivia. Micah Sanders gave me your number. I know this is random, but would you like to get coffee sometime this week?

Harper reads it over my shoulder.

“Add an exclamation point.”

“No.”

“You sound like you’re scheduling a dental cleaning.”

“I sound like myself.”

“You sound concerned.”

“I am concerned.”

“I think it’s sweet.”

“Thank you.”

“But maybe one exclamation point,” she agrees with Harper.

I stare at her.

Micah looks at the screen. “It sounds like you.”

“Is that supposed to be comforting or insulting.”

“It was meant to be comforting.”

Gray glances down at Charlie. “Send it before they rewrite it for you.”

Harper reaches toward my phone.

I move it out of reach.

“I can do it.”

“Then do it.”

I read the message one more time.

My thumb rests over the arrow.

I press send.

The message moves onto the screen.

Delivered.

Everyone stares at me.

Nothing happens.

Harper waits approximately three seconds. “Well?”
