I can see Sly in the bathroom from my spot on the couch, where I’m curled under a blanket. The way his jeans hang off his hips and show the dimples at the base of his back is a sight I could look at all day. Of course, all good things seem to come to an end. He walks back with a warm, damp towel in one hand, and I expect him to hand it to me.
That’s why I’m caught off guard and squeal when he leans down and scoops me up in his arms. I pretend to fight back and squirm, but I don’t really want to leave this spot cradled against his chest. I don’t have a choice in the matter because he deposits me in my bed and begins cleaning me up. He’s gentle, sweet, and it feels all too natural when he goes to my dresser, gets a clean pair of pajama shorts, a hoodie, and dresses me. That’s why I’m the one who finally breaks the easy silence.
“Remember, we’re just having fun,” I say, as much for my sake as his. “You don’t need to do the whole sweet boyfriend routine.”
He huffs a dry laugh, sitting on the edge of the bed next to me. He lazily drags the backs of his knuckles over my bare legs, leaving a trail of goose bumps behind.
“So, what are we doing then?”
“We’re not doing anything, Sly. We’re just two adults that fate decided needed to reconnect, and apparently still know how to take care of each other’s needs,” I say, watching as his fingertips absentmindedly play with the hem of my shorts.
He finally looks over his shoulder at me, with an indecently smug grin, and arches a brow. “You’re saying I satisfied your needs?”
I glower at him even though he’s very much correct. He still satisfies my needs like no one else, and he knows it.
“You already know I’m leaving here in less than two weeks. Let’s just have fun while this lasts and leave it at that.”
His blue eyes bore into mine before finally softening when he nods. “Got it. No feelings, shut up when you say shut up, and have fun.”
“See, Big Guy, following instructions isn’t so hard, is it?” I smirk and he rolls his eyes.
“Yeah.” He slowly stands up and rubs the back of his neck. “Well, I do need to finish up outside.”
He steps to the side of my bed and grabs my phone. I do a double-take when he gets right past my passcode screen and starts typing.
The corner of his mouth tugs up into a little smile. “What? I figured you never changed it.”
I fold my arms over my chest and try to hide the flush creeping up my neck.
He’s right. Even if I’ve changed my phone number twice since leaving Sterling Springs, I never changed my passcode. Mine just happens to be the date that Sly and I decided to officially go out as boyfriend and girlfriend.
“Don’t overthink it,” I mumble under my breath, sounding almost like him.
He doesn’t say anything and simply hands my phone back. My messages are open, and I see that he sent a message to himself.
Me: Six
I glare at him, but he’s not looking at me. I follow his line of sight to my laptop that’s open, and not in sleep mode.
Freaking hell.
“That’s a good angle for you.”
“Very funny.”
I don’t even have to look at what’s on the screen because I remember exactly what I was editing before I left the room only… actually, I’ve lost track of time thanks to Sly and his competitive side.
I close my messages and scroll through my social media feeds, but look up to see him, head tilted, still looking at the screen.
“Are you some expert on porn?”
“No,” he says, almost defensively.
I arch a brow skeptically. “Oh, so you’re telling me you don’t follow a bunch of accounts?”
He turns and faces me, brows furrowed. He looks almost insulted when he shakes his head.
“No, Josie. I don’t follow a bunch of accounts or look at anyone else. I only found your account when I was researching vans because that’s a huge chunk of our business. I kept seeing your posts. Even without seeing your face or knowing that it was you, I was still drawn to you. I couldn’t get enough of your content. When I realized you—or I guess Black Sheep Bunni—had a spicy page, well… Let’s just say I didn’t need one of your promo deals to convince me to sign up.”
