CHAPTER 26
The Grocery Store
Claire had made a very big mistake.
She had opened her fridge.
Which had led to the unfortunate discovery that all she owned was Greek yogurt, half a lemon, and an expired pack of chicken breasts. Apparently, she’d gotten so accustomed to eating at Noah’s apartment that she’d stopped buying groceries for herself.
She frowned. “. . .When was the last time I actually cooked?”
She thought about it. She couldn’t remember.
Which probably explained why Noah had somehow become the owner of her favorite coffee mug. And why half her leftovers lived in his refrigerator instead of hers.
Even her oat milk lived in his refrigerator now.
Huh.
She sighed. “I guess I’m going grocery shopping.”
Before she could even find her keys, a knock sounded at her door. Good, she didn’t want to drive anyway.
She answered the door to Noah leaning against the frame.
“Perfect timing. We’re going to the grocery store.”
Noah raised an eyebrow. “We are?”
“Yep.” She grabbed her purse and stepped into the hall. “And you’re driving.”
“I mean. . . yes. That’s generally how this works. Let me get my keys.” He kissed her cheek before disappearing back into his apartment.
Claire blinked, standing there dumbfounded.
Seriously.
How was she still surprised every time he did that?
“Get it together, Claire,” she instructed herself, muttering under her breath.
Twenty seconds later, Noah was back in the hall. He instantly reached for her hand and they started walking.
He grinned at her. “How is your day going?”
“I hope you don’t expect me to say something cheesy like ‘Better now that you’re here,’” she joked.
“Never. I know you better than that.”
“Good. Don’t expect me to get all mushy now that I’m your girlfriend.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
Absentmindedly, Noah added a carton of oat milk to their basket.
Their basket.
Funny.
