I laughed. He was funny.

“Jack always finds the most beautiful girls. Great moves.” He put his hands on my hips and followed all my gyrations as I threw my arms in the air. I couldn’t help my grin.

All was finally right in the world. Leon was lovely. Everyone was lovely. I wanted to stay and dance forever.

We danced. We drank water. We danced some more.

Gradually, the room began to thin.

But the music continued.

Someone grabbed my hand and pulled me hard up against them.

Dylan.

I beamed up at him.

Leon raised his hands. “Whoa!” he shouted.

“Hi, Dylan. Dance with me,” I said, but his eyes were cold and hard.

Oh dear.

“Do you have any idea what time it is?” he growled.

“Listen to the music, Doctor Dyl,” I begged. “Be free. Ride the wave.” My voice was hoarse.

He reached up and touched my forehead. “Oh Jesus! What did you take, Emily?” he shouted above the music.

I laughed. “Dance, Dylan. Please dance with me.”

“I think you need water. Come with me.” Grabbing my hand, he dragged me from the dance floor.

“Bye, Leon,” I shouted, though I couldn’t hear my own voice.

Leon waved and blew kisses with both hands. I giggled.

In the kitchen, Dylan handed me a glass of water. There were fewer people.

“Drink,” he commanded.

The water was delicious. I reached up and stroked Dylan’s face.

“You have a lovely face.” My voice was husky, not my own.

Dylan grabbed my hand, his blue eyes wintry. They were the most amazing color. “Stop that! Come on. I’m taking you home. Do you have any idea what time it is?”

“I wanna stay… Please.”

“It’s nearly 2:00 a.m. and you’re wasted. Come on.”

“Wow. That late. But the music… I wanna stay.”

Dylan moved quickly, and I was suddenly over his shoulder, giggling because he was hilarious. I rubbed my hands down his back, feeling his muscles flex as he walked out of the kitchen. He was long and lean beneath his T-shirt.

“My bag!”

“You’re still wearing it,” he growled.
