“Alaric?” Darius asked, observing her closely.
“Yes. Could you tell him I don’t blame him for me eating too much?”
“I will. Although I think Alaric has definitely learned a lesson about caring for a mate.”
“That’s good, right? When he finds his mate, he’ll take better care of her. Oh, I wouldn’t tell him that if I were you,” Mara warned.
“Would you like to go to the bank this morning?” Darius changed the subject, and she suspected he’d already expressed his disapproval to Alaric.
“Definitely. I have the keys today for the safety deposit boxes, so I need to make sure I’m there on time.”
“You need to put something in your stomach. How about a piece of toast?”
“I could try a dry piece.” She wrinkled her nose. He was right, but she really didn’t want to get sick again.
“Let’s go to the dining room. I’ll have them bring you a cup of tea with the toast.”
Soon she sipped the hot tea fortified with honey. “That tastes good.” She nibbled on the bread and joked, “Yum.”
“Not too exciting but bland enough to keep your stomach settled.”
“What are you doing today?”
“Bram has called a meeting. I will take you to work and then head over there. Are you sure you’re well enough to do your job?”
“I’ll be fine as long as no one pops microwave pouches of popcorn,” she joked before leaning forward to add, “Do you think Bram has found something?”
“Perhaps. I will check with him soon. In the meantime, you are to stay safe. Make sure you have a lot of people in sight. You should be free from danger in the bank with all the witnesses. Whoever is behind the attacks shouldn’t make a move there.”
Mara shivered at the thought that someone would attack her at work. “Maybe a bad guy loaded a virus into the banking system. That could happen, right?”
“It could happen,” Darius agreed with her but didn’t appear to believe in the possibility.
“You’re positive someone is doing this deliberately.”
“Ninety-nine percent sure,” Darius confirmed.
“If you find out juicy information, will you tell me?”
“Maybe. Unless I think that knowledge will endanger you.”
She couldn’t argue with that. “Okay. Let me brush my teeth, and I’ll be ready to go.”

“Holy shit, Bram,” Donovan said and whistled low as Darius entered the meeting room at Nightfall.
Darius scrambled to get up to speed. “Sorry. Mara struggled a bit this morning to get ready for work,” he said as he scanned the room for some clue as to what Donovan referred to. A projected web on the lighted display caught his eye. Darius walked closer to examine the graphic.
“The Costa family tree? You’re thinking Enzo is involved?” Darius asked.
“Alaric asked me to investigate two people’s relations out several steps,” Bram said.
“Who else?” Darius demanded.
Bram clicked his keyboard and displayed another relationship chart. “The bank president, James Mattson.”
