The Alpha command strikes hard enough that my wolf lowers his head.
Brennan’s mouth opens.
“It was...”
His head explodes.
I move before I think.
One second Arlene is beside her desk.
The next, she is against my chest with my body wrapped around hers.
Rylan does the same with Luna Selena.
Blood sprays across the office.
It hits the walls, the desk, the books, the floor.
Luna Selena screams.
Brennan’s lifeless body hits the ground.
For a moment, no one moves.
Arlene’s fingers dig into my shirt.
“Don’t look,” I murmur, keeping her face against my chest.
Blood drips from the edge of the desk.
My wolf recoils.
Blood oath.
I look at Rylan.
He is still shielding Luna Selena, his body between her and what remains of Brennan.
His eyes meet mine.
He knows too.
Brennan had said he couldn’t tell us.
Rylan commanded him to.
And something killed him before he could obey.
Someone made certain Brennan could never name them.
By the time security clears the office, Luna Selena has stopped shaking.
Arlene sits beside her, one hand resting over her belly while Rylan stays close enough to touch Luna Selena without crowding her.
I stand across from them.
Luna Selena looks at the notebook in her lap.
