Arlene’s POV
Rylan mindlink cuts through like a blade. “ROGUE ATTACK.” I stop. Selena does too. The mindlink erupts.
“Eastern border!” One patrol wolf report.
“Hundreds of rogues over here!” Another patrol wolf reports.
“Warriors to the east, needed!” A warrior reports.
“Hundreds, they're crossing the boundary!” A panicked border patrol reports
Selena changes instantly. The laughing woman beside me disappears beneath the authority of my Luna. "My protection detail, Luna command released. All fifteen of you report directly to the eastern border. Protect our territory."
“Yes, Luna!” Acknowledgments flood through the link. Selena doesn't wait. "All noncombatants, elderly and pups, report to your nearest safety room. Warriors, assist anyone who needs help. Paige, are you still at the pack house?"
"I'm here."
"Get everyone there into the safety rooms and coordinate until I arrive."
"Yes Luna." My chest tightens. Damian. Darlene. Arian. They're with Paige. They're safe.
Darian's voice comes next. "Rylan, Justin and I are heading to the eastern border. That's where most of the rogues are."
Then Rylan. "Selena, where are you?"
Silence. I slowly turn my head toward her. Selena grimaces. "Cypress Moon Park."
The mindlink goes dead quiet for half a heartbeat. "That's on the western side of the territory."
"You can yell at me later." I almost laugh despite everything. Almost. “We’re heading back now. It's about eight minutes at my current speed."
"I'm coming."
"No. Go to the eastern border. I just sent all fifteen of my guards to you. Stop the rogues from getting farther into our territory. Arlene is with me."
Darian enters my mind. "Where are you?"
"With your very stubborn Luna at Cypress Moon Park."
Selena's voice immediately slips into my head. "Traitor."
"You snuck out while pregnant."
“Detail. You’re my accomplice. If I go down, you go down.
Darian growls. "Get back to the pack house."
"We're moving now."
Rylan isn't finished. "Selena, keep the link open. I need to know when you’re safe."
"I will."
We turn toward the pack house. Selena moves as quickly as her heavily pregnant body allows, one hand beneath her stomach. I stay beside her, listening to the chaos pouring through the pack link. Then my wolf goes rigid. Everything inside me stops. I smell them, the scent of rot and bodies left too long in their own filth.
Rogues.
