Before it, Ronan is everywhere. After it, he's gone.
Darian opens the later records. “He cut Ronan out.”
My eyes move over Selena's name, her unborn heir, and plans for what happens after the birth. “Because he didn't want Ronan to have Silver Moon anymore.”
“He wanted it himself.”
I lean against the desk, understanding why my brother suddenly decided Vale deserved my attention. Vale had spent years helping Ronan chase power, then discarded him the moment Selena's pregnancy offered a better path.
“Vale betrayed Ronan.”
Darian snorts. “So Ronan betrayed Vale.”
“Yeah.”
He looks at me for a moment before his mouth twitches. “You think he's telling your parents about you right now?”
I slowly turn my head.
“Don't.”
“I didn't say anything.”
“You were going to.”
He turns back to the computer before I can respond, and I return to Vale's files. The next time Darian calls me over, his voice has changed.
“How far back does this go?”
I look at the date on the screen and immediately recognize it.
Selena's parents.
“We already know Ronan and Candice were behind the rogue attack.”
“Look who was helping them.”
Vale's name appears throughout the communications, tied to rogue contacts and information dating back to when Ronan and Candice were teenagers. His corruption runs deep and I see files that I’ll need to report to my great grandfather later, because there seems to be collaborators across many packs, like an organization… but right now I need to focus on finding my mate.
“He was guiding them even then. His corruption runs deep.”
Darian opens another financial record. “There's a payment to a witch.”
“When?”
He gives me the date.
Selena was ten.
“The poison.”
“Looks like Vale bought it.”
My grip tightens on the desk. I already knew Candice poisoned Selena in our first life. Now I know who put it in her hands.
My Lycan growls. Mate.
"We're getting her back."
