“I don’t know how to put this lightly, so I’m just gonna rip the band-aid off. Your brother hates me.”
A heavy and suffocating silence fell between us.
“What? No,” she said in disbelief.
“He hates my fucking guts, Vera.”
I wouldn’t make it to my next birthday if it ever got back to Snoh that I was involved in an intimate relationship with his sister.
“Snoh doesn’t hate anyone. He is literally one of the nicest people ever,” she remarked, defending his character.
I snorted and finally looked at her. “Sugar, have you met your brother?”
She pressed her fingers to her temples, closed her eyes, and sighed. “Okay… tell me why y’all got beef.”
I shrugged. “Let’s just say it’s a difference of opinion.”
She raised an eyebrow like an action movie villain. She didn’t believe a word that came out of my mouth, and she made that perfectly clear when she redialed him.
“Vera, no!” I hissed. “Vera, get off the phone!” I panicked and reached for the phone. She elbowed me in the chest and mean-mugged me before putting her phone on speaker.
“Why are you blowing up my line?”
“I forgot to mention, I was at a bar the other day, and you wouldn’t believe who I ran into.”
“Who?”
“Hang up the phone,” I begged. She shot me the finger before continuing.
“I ran into a few players from the Washington Warriors.”
She rattled off a list until she made it to my name.
“Wait. Back up. Back up. Did you say, Hart Myers?”
I threw my hands up in the air, realizing that God truly had abandoned me.
“Yeah. He was kinda fine and asked for my number.”
“Fuck that shit and fuck him too while I’m at it. I can’t stand that motherfucker, and the next time I see him, it’s on sight.”
Her eyes snapped up, pinning me down. “Tell me more, Snoh.”
“You didn’t give him your number, did you?”
“I’m not that reckless,” she lied.
“Oh, thank God,” Snoh said, sounding relieved.
“Well, don’t hold out on me. Spill the tea.”
I reached for the phone again, and that wicked eyebrow of hers jumped higher.
I resigned to my fate, leaning against the edge of the counter and crossing my arms over my chest.
“Hart and I were in the same dormitory in the Olympic Village, and I kid you not, Vera, that manwhore had a revolving door on his room. He turned that place into a goddamn brothel. Sometimes women were coming in and out of his room in pairs. Once, it was three of them.”
“Damn. Why are you dick watching the man?”
