Burning Ember

He got into the shower and hurried to wash up. By the time I finished shaving, he was out of the shower and dressing. We were flying back this evening, so we didn’t have to check out of the room, and hopefully, Jordan wouldn’t be mad at me any longer. I wanted him to be in a good mood tonight.

After I was dressed, I went to call for the elevator. When the bell rang, Jordan came down and slid into the car, just before the golden doors closed.

“Are you going to be mad at me all day?”

“Maybe. All I asked was that you’d wear a condom so I didn’t have cum and lube leaking out of my ass. I’ll already be nervous about the performance. I didn’t need the added pressure.”

Yeah, I’d been an ass.

“Look, I apologize, okay? I was being an asshole, and I’m sorry. I love you, and I support you. I have a bit of a headache from drinking last night, and that’s my fault. Please forgive me.” God, I felt like a fucking jerk.

We stepped off the elevator and headed toward the large fountain in the lobby. Lerner stood in front of the fountain, phone pointed in our direction. Jordan grabbed my hand and led me over to the statue of a Roman soldier in the middle of the fountain.

Jordan slid down on one knee and took my hand. “I had this all orchestrated, but here goes. I don’t want us to fight, so I’m just going to say that I love you with all my heart, and I want to go onto that stage as an engaged man. Will you marry me, Thatcher?”

Jordan reached into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out a black silicone band. “With your job, you probably can’t wear a fancy ring, but you can wear this to work, can’t you?”

I slid to my knees in front of him. “I love you, and I wanna marry you. I’ve said this before, so believe me when I say it now. You are my heart, honey. I never want to fight with you, and I’m sorry I was so selfish.”

People clapped as Jordan slid the ring on my finger before I kissed him right there. The moment was like a dream come true.

I stood in the hallway with Kit and Sandy, who was a super nice guy I didn’t know too well. Of course he knew JD because Skylar had played with the band a few times, and he’d been the one who’d brought Hardy to the band.

It was a bittersweet night. It was healing for the band, I suspected, and I hoped it went well. Those guys needed every healing thought that came their way.

One of the crew walked down the hall to the door of their dressing room. “So this is it?” I asked Kit.

He smirked. “Yep. I notice you have some new jewelry. Nice.” He held out his left hand, adorned with a nice white-gold band.

He hadn’t been at the hotel when Jordan had proposed to me. I was still reeling!

“How did you guys get engaged? Have you set a date yet?” Yeah, I was nosy.

“Don’t tell JD. These guys tell each other everything, and I want it to be a surprise. Next week, I’m taking River to the courthouse, and then we’re going to Fuji for our honeymoon. I expect we’ll surface around Thanksgiving for the party you’ll want to give us to celebrate our nuptials.”

I stared at Kit for a minute before laughing. “Anything else?”

“Yeah, when we go on tour next year, will you and JD watch our house?”

Of course I couldn’t hold in the laugh.

The guys came down the hall as the other band finished. Nate Ashby was there with the same two guys he’d had with him at the youth center event. I had no idea who they were, but surely someone would introduce them.

As Jordan walked by in those fucking leather pants that instantly had me sprung, I whistled and kissed him. He kissed me back, then continued down the hallway and out to the open-air stage. It was sunny and warm—low nineties. Jordan’s shirt was unbuttoned all the way, with his sexy chest and abs exposed for everyone to see and lust after.

When River walked by in an outfit similar to Jordan’s, I was surprised when I saw two circular cuts baring his ass cheeks. I turned to Kit. “You okay with that?”

He smirked. “He’ll be going home with me tonight. They can all wish and want, but he’s mine. You’ll learn how to deal with groupies, I promise. They all want them, but they can’t have them. They’re all ours.”

That wasn’t anything I’d ever considered. Would I have to fight with groupies who tried to tempt my boyfriend—now, fiancé—away from me?

“Let’s go stand off to the left of the stage where we can see them better. Riv already threw up. Did JD?”

“Wait, River threw up?”

Kit put his arm around my shoulders. “They all freak out. They stopped smoking before the show, so they’re doing it on their own now. I admire the hell out of them for doing it without smoking. Now, they’ll probably drink, but don’t freak out.”

That was something I didn’t know. “Really?” Jordan didn’t drink that much, as far as I knew.
