Zoey holds up her finger, phone to her ear. “Quiet. I’m calling in reinforcements. Aunt Sarah… I have a huge favor… I do need a sitter, but not for the twins. For me—or me and the twins.”

“Oh shit!” Emma leans forward, elbows on her knees as she watches Zoey chatting it up with Aunt Sarah. “Girl is gonna get wasted.”

Zoey shrugs and points to the markers.

“Well—Lucy brought over some tequila, and it’s just been a hard week. So, what do you say?” Zoey switches it over to speaker so we can hear Aunt Sarah cackle.

“How about I just come over, grab the twins, and maybe you can call your sexy, hot doctor friend and get…”

“Okay, Sarah, thank you.” Zoey’s face turns fifty shades of red before continuing. “I’ll get their bags together. See you later. Thanks again. Bye.” She hangs up before Sarah can get another word in.

Zoey slides the phone into the back pocket of her jeans. “Someone get me a drink.”

Emma holds up two bottles. “Coconut or peach infused?”

“Coconut, please.” Zoey takes a seat next to Emma as she hands her the first drink. “Thanks.” She tosses the liquor back, making a face as we sit there and watch her. “So good!” She holds out her glass. “How about one more.”

“Umm.” Emma’s eyes go wide. “Are we just going to skip over the whole sexy doctor friend comment?” Emma pours Zoey another drink before she continues. “I’m guessing the sexy doctor friend is none other than Jayson Lincoln?”

Zoey doesn’t bother to say a word. She just grabs the bottle from Emma and pours herself a double. “There’s nothing going on,” she blurts out before she downs the tequila.

“Sure there isn’t, but if you keep throwing back shots like it’s your twenty-first birthday, we might hear different.” I wink before pouring two more fingers for both me and Emma.

“What she said.” Emma holds up her glass to mine.

“You can’t toast without me.” Zoey grabs the bottle, not even bothering to fill her glass.

I love these ladies. Each of us has been through a lot these past few months.

Zoey with her divorce.

Emma with her cheating fiancé.

And then there is me… who got dumped while trying on my wedding dress.

“I’m so thankful for you two.” I try to hold back the tears. “I can take on the world as long as I have you guys in my corner.”

“Always,” Zoey and Emma say at the same time.

“What should we toast to?” Emma asks.

“Life may have handed us all limes lately, but we turned that shit into margaritas.”

“Cheers!” we call out in unison. Zoey takes a swig of the tequila while Emma and I follow.

“Speaking of, do you have any limes?” I ask.

“Whoa!” Zoey sets the bottle down. “I’ll check. I think I better get the snacks and maybe a bottle of water or two.”

I try to hide my laugh. “Want some help?”

Zoey holds up a hand, shaking her head. “Nah, I got it. You guys catch up,” she hollers as she disappears into the kitchen.

“Is she okay?”

“Yeah, I think so. Carson has been playing games with the divorce, racking up the bill.”

I lean back in the love seat. “What’s going on with Jayson?”
