“Fuck off.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
I turn in my seat. The last thing I need is Jax asking questions. He’s already suspicious.
I look down.
Baby Becks: Did you buy groceries?
My mouth pulls at one corner. I type back.
Me: That’s generally how groceries get into the house.
The dots appear immediately.
Baby Becks: You bought my creamer.
Me: I bought groceries.
Baby Becks: Hazelnut creamer is not groceries.
Me: Pretty sure I found it at a grocery store.
Baby Becks: You don’t even use creamer.
I stare at that one for a second. Then type the obvious answer, hoping she doesn’t read too much into it.
Me: You do.
The dots appear.
Disappear.
Appear again.
Nothing comes through.
I frown.
“What?” Jax asks.
“Nothing.”
“You’ve said nothing like six times in the last five minutes.”
“Maybe take the hint.”
My phone buzzes again.
Baby Becks: Thank you.
A second message follows.
Baby Becks: Also, Darcy would like it noted that you forgot him.
I laugh under my breath.
Me: Did I? Oops.
