I pulled back, gasping, every inch of my body flushed. “No, I didn’t mean—”
“This is unbearable, Fireheart.”
I stared up at him, confused. “I don’t understand. Isn’t this what you wanted?”
He stared down at me, then pushed his hair off his face with an expression of sheer frustration. “I want …”
He grasped me, pulling me up, then ran a finger down the leather jerkin that covered me. “Your mouth is exquisite, a gift from the gods. But I want this—all of you. These garments …” He gestured to my leather armor. “With your permission?”
“Yes.” I barely had time to get out the word before he’d lifted impossibly strong hands and rendered the leather like a knife cutting butter. The jerkin dropped, and my arms and hands leaped up, one arm crossing over my breasts and the other covering my lower parts. “Nyxaris!”
“You said yes,” he said lazily. The grin was back.
“I don’t recall you grinning this much as a dragon,” I said, a little crossly.
“You simply couldn’t tell—humans never can.” He looked down at me. “You are quite simply perfect.”
“Perfect? Don’t play games with me.”
“But games are fun, Florence. Even dragons enjoy them.” His fangs came into view as his mouth widened, and I did my best not to melt into a puddle of lust.
I took a deep breath. Focus, Florence. Focus. “How could you imagine this? You said—”
“Dragons have urges. Desires. Sometimes dark, impossible ones. I would imagine, yes. While knowing what I imagined—what I longed for with every scale—would never, ever be.”
“You truly didn’t know you could change form?”
“No.” His face wrinkled, as if in confusion. “I had memories that were wrong.”
I had to chuckle. “You mean, you never imagined that you’d be standing naked, as a man, in a field someday?”
“You’re rather naked yourself,” he pointed out. “Would you like me to change that?”
My heart stopped again, then restarted. “Change that?”
He slowly moved his wings back and forth. “I can provide some shelter if you like.”
I gave a mirthless laugh. “Oh, is that what you’d call it?”
“I can provide whatever you’d like, Florence,” he said, his voice seductive—whether intentionally or not, I didn’t know. But it was like liquid velvet, and it slid straight to the damp place between my thighs.
“I …” I tried to breathe but choked instead.
Nyxaris touched my cheek, amusement at the corners of his mouth. “Suffice to say this is new for us both?”
I nodded.
“Shall we cease talking and …?” Now it was his turn to trail off.
“Do unspeakable things to one another?” I was shocked I’d gotten the words out.
“I’m prepared if you are.” His voice was breathless. And then his mouth was on mine again. I never wanted it to leave. I could breathe around it. His tongue brushed mine, and my breath hitched, a wave of heat slipping over me. He stepped closer, and our bare skin touched. The contact was a shock to all my senses. Like being doused with ice-cold water. But better. So much better.
“Nyxaris,” I breathed around the kiss.
He didn’t respond. Simply made a deep, primal sound as he wrapped his hands around my waist, this time with no leather parting warm layers of skin, and pulled me flush against him, squeezing my bottom. I arched against him, closing my eyes as I felt his cock hard against my center. If this was how good he felt just like this, then … I forced my attention back. His wings flapped lightly, then came forward, half closing, forming a circle around us, blotting out the field.
“Private enough for you?” he murmured, as his hands slipped over my hips, then lower.
