Knox pushed away from the wall, suddenly looking old and tired.
“And now they’re killing humans,” Theo said.
“They’re framing us. They’re killing easy human targets next to our land. When the humans retaliate, it will be us they’ll come after. Revenge for the death of their pack members.”
It was exactly what Theo had thought. It didn’t feel great to be right about this one.
“The whole thing really fucked up my plans.”
Theo blew out a long sigh. “So, Lena—”
“I need to know what to do.”
For once his unshakable older brother sounded lost, and it scared Theo more than he would ever admit.
“I need her to tell me what to do next. Where to go from here. Our pack is in danger, Theo. I know you don’t give a fuck—”
“Of course I do. Those are my people too. I never stopped… I never stopped feeling that way.”
“Then come back.”
Theo’s head snapped up. “What?”
“Come back to the pack. The old man is dead. Things are different.”
“I… I don’t—”
“Bring Phoebe.”
Her name nearly brought him to his knees. He shook it off.
“Why?”
“I offered the same to Rafe. I… Imagine what the three of us could do if we weren’t pitted against each other.”
Holy shit. Knox was offering him a place, a home. Back with his pack, working with his brothers.
“You never needed me before.”
“Oh, come off it, Theo. Why do you think shit like that? The pack fucking loved you. Far more than they ever loved me.”
“They respected you,” Theo growled. “They never expected shit from me.”
Knox’s eyes flashed. “People will go to the ends of the earth for what they love. Respect only gets you so far.”
“So, what? You want me to come back and be your little assistant or something? Hype people up about your latest idea to save them?”
Knox’s warning growl echoed in Theo’s chest.
“Come back and help your people. That’s what I’m offering. Take it or leave it.” His brother, the Alpha, turned and stormed back into the bar, slamming the door in Theo’s face.
Chapter Thirty-Four
It didn’t take long after that for the nymphs to start showing up on his doorstep.
“I don’t want any Girl Scout cookies,” he growled, but Daphne didn’t even flinch.
“Phoebe needs you,” she said.
