Carved in the Shadows

His spine stiffened while the rest of him went pliant.

I wondered if he felt mine, too.

If he fucking knew the way my entire being twisted inside out the second his sister got within a hundred yards of me.

“What are you doing out here?” Silas rumbled it low as he sauntered Brinley’s way.

Like the dude was mad when there wasn’t an irritated thing about him.

Brinley giggled and shifted on the spiked heels that she always wore. I was pretty sure she did it to drive my best friend crazy.

God knew it worked.

The guy had been hooked from the second she’d shown up on the property.

“We heard there might be a party happening over here tonight.” She said it coy. Like she was a stranger showing up for the first time and not the Crimson Crows’ queen.

“Hmmm.” I could feel his hum from across the space as he slipped his hands to her sides and jerked her against him in a show of possession.

She clearly didn’t mind since she wore a black tee that said Property of the President across the tits.

Elena giggled, too, though her eyes were on me, girl shifting on her feet in a smidgeon of uncertainty.

Guess she found what she was looking for in my unrelenting gaze because she pranced in my direction. Teeth on that bottom lip and pink lighting her pretty cheeks. She rolled those hazel eyes.

“I think I’d better let the lovebirds have a little alone time. Last thing I need is witnessing what I don’t want to see since my brother can’t keep his dirty mitts off my bestie.” She shouted the last over her shoulder.

Silas only let go of a chuckle before he dove in to take Brinley’s mouth, getting handsy as he edged her outside of the firelight.

No shocker there.

Asshole had her every second he could get her.

Elena looked back at me, mischief playing in her expression.

Whatever discomfort we’d been stewing in all day had evaporated.

“It’s been a long week, and this girl is ready to let loose. I think I’m going to go inside and do a shot to get this party started.”

I wondered if she already knew she was going to give me a coronary when she said it because it was like I could see her waiting for the reaction.

Like she might experience a little sick, sadistic glee in the way my heart stuttered for a beat.

Then she swiveled on her heel and sashayed her gorgeous ass toward the swinging doors, the skirt of that dress swishing all around those lush, toned thighs.

And I wondered if she knew the only thing I was going to do was scramble to catch up to her.

Chained.

Leashed.

A sucker who was hooked on what he could never really have.

But I guess I’d follow her around like a lovesick puppy, anyway.
