Carved in the Shadows

Okay, fine. The horror.

“Oh God,” I rasped when I realized what I’d done.

Mortification streaked, and I went to scramble back. “Oh God. I’m so sorry. I…”

Big hands stopped me. Arms steal bands that kept me from escaping.

Fire scorched at every contact point where I was affixed to his body like I was little more than an extension of him.

“Don’t be embarrassed. It’s normal,” he said.

I choked over a laugh and somehow managed to unwind myself from his hold, and I sat up and turned my back to him as I struggled to find my breath.

To come back down to reality.

But that reality meant that I’d humped Trevan’s leg like a perverted fiend in my sleep.

Just freaking awesome.

“Hey.” The word was coarse. Gravel that filled my room. “You were asleep. You didn’t know.”

But I did know. It was his face that I’d seen.

Him.

His body next to mine that had sent mine into overdrive.

Spiraling out of control.

And I wanted it.

I wanted it to be real. To turn around and crawl to him. Beg him to repeat the best part of that dream.

I peeked back at him. “You were in my dream.”

He flinched. “Lena.”

I shoved down my shame and instead searched for confidence, and I shifted around onto my knees.

Maybe it was the high from the orgasm still running through me.

Or maybe it amounted to the aggravating fact that I was tired of waiting.

Either way, I stared at him, so big in my bed, and said, “You’re hard.”

He scoffed a discordant laugh. “You just came on my leg.”

“You want me, too.” It came out defiant.

“Natural reaction.” It was his own defiance. “You think I’m not gonna react with a beautiful woman rubbing herself all over me in my sleep?”

So what if he called me beautiful. Rejection still slammed me, and I bit down on my bottom lip. My attention dipped to my black comforter.

“So, it was just instinct? Nothing to do with me? You don’t want me?”

“Fuck, Elena. Any man who gets to have you is the luckiest bastard alive.”

I looked up at him.
