“And find a calming, downtime activity. Something y’all can do at any time of day, so the fluctuating schedule thing won’t get in the way of it,” Kodi said.
“Do you have any suggestions?”
“Carmen and I watch reality TV, the cringier the better.”
“I don’t think we really have one, but I’m at the stadium all the time, so we don’t need that reconnect time.”
“You like crafting, right? Is there something you both could work on that’s fine to leave untouched for a while?” Nicole asked.
“Huh, I dunno, but the idea of Niall knitting does make me giggle.”
“Well, you don’t have to decide right away,” Kodi said. “You can trial and error it, you just have to keep trialing after each error.”
“Beautifully put,” I snarked and got a swift kick to the shin.
“And last thing, get more details about the Italy trip and consider—”
“Highly consider,” Kodi cut in.
“—going. Think those three things are achievable?” Rosa asked as Kodi took the napkin and pulled out her phone.
“Depends on who Kodi’s texting,” I said, returning her little kick.
“What? Christenson needs to know in order to help. Plus he deserves some homework too. Like not coming into the stadium on an off day.”
“And how do you know he’s in there on an off day?”
“I work different hours!” Kodi argued before we were thankfully interrupted by our waitress delivering food and my emotional growth homework was left aside in favor of arguing over which restaurant had the best tortilla chips.
The Chat "Assists"
The Dastards Team Chat
Kodi: Christenson, we’ve got some homework for you
Brooker: Why does that sound like he’s in trouble?
Gallagher: Maybe ’cause it reminds you of school where you were always in trouble?
Brooker: Wrong, I was a model student
Kodi: I find that hard to believe, but moving on
Kodi: 1) I want you to think of things Leah likes that you can treat her to. Nothing practical, but start small. Like price tag small, not item small
Rosa: And buy a nice mattress for her place
Me: Those are conflicting instructions
Taylor: Nah, one is a fun thing for her, the other is a practical thing for both of y’all. You’re gonna be grateful for a good mattress when you’ve both gotten up at 2 a.m. to feed the baby
Me: Okay, did she explicitly say I can buy a mattress for her place?
Kodi: Well don’t buy her one immediately. But it was the first thing she thought of when we told her to let you buy things
Rosa: Correction, buy her one immediately after you get her input
Me: Duly noted. What else?
