I swallowed back the question as I scanned the next part of the report. Travis put someone in the hospital in his last fight. He would still be in jail if it weren’t for the Bennets’ influence, that much was clear. He even had a restraining order filed against him from the sister of the man who was hospitalized.

It took a moment to realize that the screen was only shaking because it was attached to my hand. I’d almost turned it off when I spotted the last entry at the bottom.

DSI diagnosis with a note to monitor.

I threw a hand over my own mouth to stifle a scream. I sat, heart pounding so hard it shook my whole body, until I could focus, then I shut down the files. I’d found what I was looking for.

Travis was well on track to being an AI specialist himself, he’d just let his dangerous temper get in the way. He was uninhibited by his DSI. He hated the Bennets.

Still, I couldn’t accept that he was a killer.

He’d helped save me from the stasis chamber. He’d saved me at the aquarium. He snuck into my room, thinking someone may have hurt me.

But if he sabotaged the AI, he may not even have known he did it. He may not have been able to control what the computer did as a result of his programming. He may have damned himself along with everyone else.

He could blackout again at any time.

So could I.

He was with Mason. Mason who he couldn’t stand and blamed for his family’s situation. There was no question he was capable of violence.

My wristcom beeped. I’d almost forgotten what I was there for. I leaped up from behind the statue and pulled my knives, praying that Travis would stay in control and carry out the plan, because it would take all of us to pull this off.
