A Matter of Time

Doyle shook his head. This woman undid him with every infuriatingly unexpected action. There was only one way to show her what she meant to him because words would never be enough. But he wouldn’t lift a hand without her permission. Because now that he’d screwed up so royally, it was entirely possible—no probable—that she’d reject him. And she had every right to.

“I need to kiss you,” he whispered.

Sadie stopped and stared at him. “You need to kiss me?” she repeated as a challenge and tossed her hair back over her bare shoulder where the too big gown had slipped down to her elbow.

Doyle nodded. Dead serious, he added, “Say it’s okay.”

Sadie snorted and threw her hands up in the air, momentarily dropping the sheet so that the gown fell with it, exposing her perfect breasts. The cold air drew out her pink nipples, and Doyle’s cock twitched, stretching.

“You’ve turned my entire life topsy turvy, Walter Doyle. And now you want to confuse me even more by kissing me?”

Doyle nodded again, waiting. There was no use expecting her to react one way or another. He knew her well enough to know she’d do whatever the hell she wanted whether it made sense or not.

“Then what?” she asked, voice strained.

Doyle swallowed. “Then, if you agree, I’ll take you back to my room, make mad, passionate love to you, and explain everything, though it seems like you already know most of it, Lord knows how.”

Sadie let a smile slip. “Then what?”

Doyle smiled back. “I’m not sure I can get my man-brain past the whole making-love-to-you part. We may have to do that for a good long while.”

“Then?” she asked, pulling her knees to her chest under the white sheet and leaning on them.

“Then it’s…complicated,” he admitted, shifting uncomfortably with his half hard cock and not wanting to mince words. “The Time Capsule Resort is supposed to go back to my time as soon as we find the person responsible for getting us all in this predicament in the first place.”

Sadie cocked her head, letting her hair spill over her shoulder again. “So you don’t mean to invade us?”

“Invade you?” Doyle echoed, perplexed.

“Well why else would future dwellers come back here? I assumed y’all screwed up somehow and wanted a do-over.”

“You thought we came back in time to take over the town?” Doyle asked, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

Sadie smacked his arm and he nearly fell again.

“What else was I ‘sposed to think?” she asked, sliding back against the bed, which bobbed slightly with the movement, making her sit straight up again and yelp. “What was that? An earthquake?”

“No. It’s the bed. It’s floating so it’s easier on an injured body.” Doyle grinned, though he knew he had no right to. “There are a lot of inventions I can show you now that you know the truth—which, for the record, isn’t anywhere near as fanciful as you might think. We came here on a vacation to pretend for a while.”

“Y’all came here to play cowboy?” Sadie’s voice cracked.

“Well, to put it simply, yes,” Doyle admitted. “The time machine was never supposed to even be visible. We didn’t want to scare anyone or alter the way things were supposed to happen.”

“But both those things did happen,” Sadie said.

“Yeah, because someone messed with the coordinates on purpose and that cloaking device came off. So we were off course and visible. That’s why I came out. To find the missing device and hopefully fix it.”

“Well shit, Wally, if you’d just said so in the first place. But—oh dear.” Sadie’s face went pale so fast he was afraid she’d pass out.

“What?”

“I may have warned Amos about you.” She fiddled with her fingers, which Doyle grabbed to still so she’d look at him.

“Does he know where we are?”

Sadie shook her head. “I couldn’t bring myself to take them to you. Damn you, Wally, you got under my skin. I was mad as a hog when you didn’t show up, and I didn’t know what y’all were doing here.”

Doyle grinned and leaned his forehead against hers. That was enough of an admission that she liked him too.

“What are we gonna do?” she asked.

“Let me kiss you,” Doyle insisted.

“How’s that gonna help?” she asked suspiciously, but not moving away.

“It’ll give me strength.”

Sadie sighed over his mouth, her warm, sweet breath intoxicating enough to stir his cock once again. “Fine.”

Wally finished the distance between them. He angled to press his lips over hers, pulling in her bottom lip and gently tugging it in a silent plea for her to open to him.

And just as he hoped, she let him in to a slow dance of sweeping tongues and velvety lips.

Fuck everyone else in both times, Doyle wasn’t letting her go.
