Recognition scratched at his brain. How did he know this guy? With his vision blurry, he couldn’t place him right now. He remembered asking the man his name earlier and had gotten a cryptic reply that he was the man who would save his life. Looked like he’d kept his word.

“I need a phone,” Sean said.

“In a minute. I need some answers.”

“Get in line,” Sean snapped. Swinging his legs over the side of the bed, he tried to rise. Agony shot through his right leg. Gritting his teeth, he grabbed hold of the edge of the thin mattress and forced himself up. Before he could take a step, the man pushed him back down with one hand.

“Take it easy, Donavan. Believe it or not, we’re on the same side.”

Swallowing past the nausea swirling in his gut, he growled out, “Maybe so, but until I get a phone, I don’t care whose side you’re on.”

“Very well, but if you’re wanting to call OZ, Asher Drake and Liam Stryker are already on their way. Should be here in a few hours.”

That stopped him in his tracks. “You work for OZ?”

The man snorted. “Not hardly.”

“Then who are you? You look familiar.”

A slight smile tugged at the man’s mouth, and his eyes glinted with humor. “Not surprised. I believe you know my sister, Jazz.”

Sinking back onto the bed, Sean took a breath. So Jazz had finally found her long-lost brother, Brody. He’d have to unpack that bit of intel later. For now, he needed to get immediate word to Ash so they could begin working on finding Serena.

“I still need a phone.”

A sat phone dropped beside him on the bed. “Have at it.”

He punched in a series of numbers. Ash answered, “Drake.”

“It’s me,” Sean said.

“We’re headed your way.”

“They have Serena.”

“You saw her?”

“Yes.”

“Was she okay?”

“As well as she could be. They’re targeting her family. I spotted several photos of them on the wall. She said someone infiltrated Francine.”

“Ed has that covered, but I’ll let him know they’ve got a spy.”

He closed his eyes, relief rushing through his veins. “Sounds like you’ve been working on this awhile.”

“Yeah. She notified us not long after she was taken. But there are a lot of holes I hope you can fill in.”

“Serena called you?”

“Not exactly. I’ll explain when we get there.”

The call ended abruptly. Sean knew he had a lot to answer for and a heap of apologies to make. He’d grovel for eternity as long as they helped him rescue Serena.

He glanced over at the big man in the corner. “I didn’t know Jazz had found you.”

“Seems you’ve been out of the OZ loop for a while.”
