“What do you do all day since you can’t collect souls?” I ask curiously. The gentle look on his face turns to frustration. Damn, I ruined it.
“Usually, reapers must file a report on the collections they did and update the soul’s profile. I am double checking other reaper’s reports and updating the profiles. That’s it, really. It keeps me busy because we collect a lot of souls within an hour,” his voice is full of disinterest.
I can tell he hates it. But he respects his role as a reaper too much to ever complain. Eden comes first for him. I wish I had as much work ethic as him when I was alive. I just let my respect and passion for the legal field dwindle into nothing.
“We will get you back to doing what you love,” I promise him.
He smiles a little. “I’m going to get some rest.”
“I’ll try not to be too loud. I’ll head to the bedroom once I’m done.”
He waves dismissively. “No problem. Take your time.”
I glance back at the blank paper and sigh. It’s going to be a long night.

IT DOES NOT PLEASE THE COURT
“Tell me what you want,” Aiden whispers in my ear. He kisses his way down my neck as his hand trails down my stomach. I moan in anticipation of his destination.
“I want you, Aiden,” I breathe, my heart beating faster with every second that passes. God, I’ve been waiting forever for this moment.
He grins. “Anything you want, baby.” His mouth slams down on mine. I make a noise at the back of my throat, lift my hands, and curl my fingers in his hair. His tongue sweeps inside my mouth, taking control over me.
He tastes so damn good. I whimper his name into his mouth as he rubs himself against me and—
Tap.
I groan, ignoring the touch against my forehead. My dream is way too good for me to wake up.
Tap.
This time it is much harder. Irritated, I open my eyes. I glance up to see an impatient Aiden. He is about to use his index finger to tap my forehead again, but stops when he realizes I am awake. Aiden in my dreams was much more tolerable than the real version.
“What do you want?” I grumble, lifting my head from the dining room table. I wipe the drool from the corner of my mouth and lick my lips. I glance around and realize I fell asleep working on his case.
Aiden stares at me for a moment then taps his watch twice. “It is 8:30.”
I furrow my brows. “At night?” I question, not understanding why he is interrupting my beauty sleep.
He gives me a look and replies, “In the morning, Ms. Parker.”
I give him a blank look. “And?”
He presses his lips together then lets out an exasperated sigh. “We have court at 9 a.m.”
I stare at him for five more seconds, then jump up. Shit! We have court in thirty minutes. Aiden is already dressed in his signature black suit and silver jewelry, which means I have the bathroom all to myself. I grab my suit and my undergarments and rush into the bathroom. Fifteen minutes later, I am showered and dressed in a dark purple suit and matching purple heels. I am standing in front of the mirror brushing my hair back into a bun when Aiden appears in the bathroom doorway. I watch through the mirror as he leans against the frame, his body taking up the majority of the space.
“Are you ready for today?” he questions with an arched brow. His dark hair is parted on the side, and neatly fixed with no strands on his forehead. I prefer when his hair covers his forehead. Either way, he looks good though.
I bite my lip. “As ready as I can be. I stayed up preparing.” I am trying to gel down some fly away hairs. My hair is very stubborn today.
He nods. “What were you dreaming of earlier?”
I pause. “What do you mean?”
He smirks. “You said my name. Was it a good dream? Were you trying to take advantage of me? Because I must be honest, I’m not that into you.”
