“I did wonder their link to the club.”

“Ask what you want. They’re going to be your family. If I can’t tell you something, I’ll say so. But I’ll answer what I can.”

I held my hand over Chill’s and paused. “You mean that?”

“Yup. I sure as hell do; my kin are now yours.”

That gave me plenty to think about, and it didn’t leave me feeling cold either.

Chapter Eleven.

Chill

I returned to the SUV for the third time, in shock. Meadow stood safely by the entrance, within my line of sight. I didn’t trust anyone not to approach her, especially as she was glowing with happiness. But fuck me, Meadow could shop. I’d not been prepared for that. On arrival, she’d demanded her picture taken with the brontosaurus and giant jackalope—forcing me to join her in a selfie.

And then a whirlwind was let loose. Meadow raced from shop to shop, picking up all sorts of knickknacks, even tacky ones which made her laugh. She was like a kid in a candy store, and as I put this lot away, it hit me why. I bet that asshole had the perfect home, no mementoes, silly ornaments, or anything.

This was Meadow making memories she could cherish, and on that note, I wouldn’t complain again, not even to tease. I’d suck it up because this would end up in my house. If Meadow was happy, then I was. We definitely wouldn’t finish this today, not with the way she was shopping.

I saw two guys watching her as she bounced on her toes. One of the men approached her, and I sped up. I slid an arm around her waist and dropped a kiss on Meadow’s smiling lips.

“Ready for round four?”

“No! Food!” she demanded, laughing. “I need fuel!”

I laughed and started walking her toward the restaurant. The guy who’d been approaching offered me a rueful look and mouthed, ‘lucky bastard.’ I offered a slight chin jerk and kept moving. It amused me how oblivious Meadow was to her beauty. Especially today, when she was radiating happiness.

Meadow paused at the entrance, taking in the paintings covering the walls.

“Wow.”

“Amazing, ain’t they,” I said as we grabbed a booth. Meadow could enjoy the artwork, and she was fixated on it.

“You enjoy art?”

“I do. I wish I could draw, but a stick figure is all I can manage. But I do love visiting galleries and museums. It sounds like a rich thing, but they hold so much emotion. Everyone always sees different things,” Meadow replied.

“I understand that,” I agreed. I made a mental note to take her to a gallery in Deadwood.

The waitress came over, and I ordered the buffalo burger with fries and the roast beef sandwich. When it arrived, Meadow’s eyes widened comically.

“It’s okay, just eat what you can,” I said. Meadow nodded and bit into the burger. Her eyes rolled back, and she moaned in ecstasy.

“Babe, unless you want a very embarrassing problem, don’t moan like that again,” I warned.

Meadow’s eyes opened, and mischief crossed her face, and she repeated that fuckin’ noise. Yup, my cock was already half-mast.

“I wonder what sounds you’ll make when I’m inside you?” I whispered, and Meadow turned red. Two could play her game.

“You can’t say that in public,” she hissed.

“Then stop making noises that are turning me on!” I retorted.

“Fair do,” Meadow replied, but mischief danced in her eyes.

We finished the meal, which gave Meadow an energy boost, and she was shopping again. I laughed as she bought two of the iconic bumper stickers, asking, ‘Where the heck is Wall Drug?’ One was for her car, the other for the SUV I was driving.

Meadow started running out of steam by five. “Home time?” I asked, thankful myself.
