“Thank you so much for sitting with me,” I said, smiling. “That guy already hit on me in the airport, and I didn’t want to have to deal with him again.”
I turned my body to face him, back pressed against the window, and held out my hand.
“I’m Heather, by the way.”
“Greyson.”
Oh. His voice was deep and warm, wrapping around me like soft velvet.
When he took my hand, a tingle shot up my arm, almost a spark of electricity. His big hand engulfed mine, and I could feel calluses on his fingertips brushing over my palm. I immediately started imagining what they would feel like on other parts of my body and felt flushed as he released my hand.
Greyson’s eyes lingered on my face for just a moment before he looked back toward the front of the shuttle, just as the doors closed and the driver got behind the wheel. He didn’t say anything else as the shuttle started moving, pulling onto the road and heading to the southern tip of the island, where the resort was located.
I looked out the window at first, watching the trees go by. Sirona Isle was mostly rainforest and white sandy beaches. A paradise that I’d been looking forward to visiting for months.
But my attention soon shifted back to the man beside me.
“So… you’re on the island alone?”
I cringed as soon as the words left my mouth. I was just trying to make small talk, but asking him the same thing that creepy Lance asked me probably wasn’t the best opener. I didn’t want to make Greyson feel as uncomfortable as Lance made me.
“I mean, I’m glad that you were able to play the part of fake boyfriend. It wouldn’t have worked if you’d been with a woman.”
I hoped it wasn’t obvious that I was prying, but I couldn’t help being curious. This guy was hot, and I couldn’t imagine that he was unattached.
“You want me to have a talk with that guy?” Greyson asked, nodding in Lance’s direction. “If he made you feel unsafe…”
My smile widened. I definitely chose the right guy to help me.
“He made me uncomfortable with his staring, and I didn’t want to deal with him hitting on me more than he already has, but I’m not scared of him. Some men just don’t know how to take a hint.”
Greyson’s frown deepened, and it made me wonder what he looked like when he smiled.
“Some guys are assholes,” he grumbled.
I laughed. “Very true. And what about you? What makes you tick, Greyson?”
He raised an eyebrow. “What makes me tick?”
“Yeah. We’re fake dating for the length of this shuttle ride, so we might as well get to know each other,” I said with a shrug and a grin. The corner of Greyson’s mouth twitched, and it felt like a victory. “So, what do you do for a living?”
His eyes narrowed slightly. “You don’t know?”
“Uh… no. How would I? Are you a famous actor or something?”
I could see him playing a Viking or a superhero. In fact, if they needed a new actor to play Thor, this man would be perfect with his broad build and strong jawline. He was practically designed to be a superhero on the big screen.
“You don’t watch football?”
My nose scrunched up. “I’m not really into sports.”
“Well, I’m the head coach for the Louisville Bobcats.”
I had no idea who the Bobcats were, but I assumed that they were an NFL team.
“That’s impressive,” I said.
It didn’t really impress me. But I was sure anyone who liked football would be thrilled to learn they were talking to a head coach.
