“He said I didn’t mean anything to him, Angie. Not his type, remember?”

“Didn’t he also tell you that he didn’t mean it? Didn’t he try to explain?”

“Yeah. But I couldn’t listen. Not then.”

“Maybe you should hear him out. I’m not saying you have to forgive him,” she added quickly. “What he said was shitty. But you’ve spent all this time telling me what a good man he is. Maybe you should at least give him a chance to explain why he said those things about you if he didn’t mean them. Because those words don’t line up with everything else you’ve said about the guy.”

I sighed. “You might be right.”

Angela smiled. “I usually am. It’s a blessing and a curse.” She turned back to the mirror. “Now, finish my hair before Leanne sends someone up here to drag me downstairs.”

I laughed weakly and picked up the hairspray. For the next few minutes, neither of us said much. But when I finished and Angela stood to admire herself in the mirror, she turned and hugged me tightly.

“I love you, you know.”

“I love you too.”

“And next time you start secretly dating a famous football coach, tell me sooner.”

I snorted. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

The lobby was bustling when we got downstairs.

Guests were arriving for the wedding, and resort employees were moving around with floral arrangements and other decorations. The ceremony wasn’t until later this afternoon, but the wedding party had been instructed to gather early for photographs and final preparations.

Angela was supposed to meet the other women in a suite that Leanne’s mother had reserved for everyone to get ready. I planned to walk her there, then find something to occupy myself until the ceremony. We were halfway across the lobby when I heard someone call my name.

“Heather!”

I turned and saw that Christine was hurrying toward us, her long hair swinging behind her shoulders. My stomach tightened.

After what happened yesterday, my first thought was that something else had gone wrong.

“Christine? Is everything okay?”

“Yeah. I just… I need to talk to you.”

Angela glanced between us. “Is this Greyson’s daughter?”

“Yeah.” I turned to Christine. “This is my sister, Angela.”

“Hi,” Christine said, looking back and forth between us a few times. It was a normal reaction for someone meeting identical twins for the first time. “Can we talk? Privately?”

I hesitated, then nodded. “Sure.”

Angela squeezed my arm. “I’ll see you later.”

She headed toward the elevators, giving Christine one last curious look before disappearing into the crowd. I turned back to the teenager.

“What’s going on?”

Christine took a deep breath. “I wanted to apologize.”

I blinked. “Christine, you already apologized yesterday. And I told you it wasn’t necessary.”

“No. Not for that.” She looked down at her hands. “I wanted to apologize for what happened between you and my dad.”

My heart stumbled. “What?”
