She needed dick, and she needed it now. She had never been this high-strung in her twenty-four years, and that included the teenageangst years.
She spent most of her free time baking to distract herself, then ate the yummy creations—peppermint brownies, pistachio cakes, and linzer cookies with raspberry jam—which only succeeded in making her teeth and stomach hurt from all the sugar.
At her absolute wit’s end, she did that horrifying task women at the end of their rope did: She downloaded Hinge.
After a few days of going through the disgusting trenches, she finally found someone cute, and after chatting a bit to ensure he wasn’t a murderer and/or psychopath, they set up a date.
The day of, she took extra care with dressing. The guy—Tyler, a doctor—was going to meet her at the store, and then they were going to walk over to Mateo’s for Mexican food right after work.
Lucy wore her best high-waisted jeans, which were skintight and made the shape of her hips a perfect curve. The jeans were coupled with a sweetheart-neck sweater, the sleeves of which were holding on to her shoulders with the last inch of their lives, so she had to wear a strapless bra. A strapless push-up bra, in case her intentions for how she wanted the night to go weren’t clear.
It was very much a standing outfit, but that was fine, because she looked great, hair twisted up in a claw clip to show off her necklace (her amazing boobs). She took extra care with her makeup as well, painting her lips a bloody red, and even wore heeled booties.
The discomfort was worth it for the look on Grayson’s face when she took off her coat that morning after she came into work. He was pouring milk into his tea when she made the big reveal, and his eyes immediately went dark, jaw going slack as he looked her up and down.
Heat flushed through her at his gaze, but she lifted her chin, smirking as he continued to pour milk into his tea until the cup overflowed, spilling over his hands.
“Ow—fuck,” he swore, looking down at the mess. She giggled to herself, twirling before going to set up the new releases.
She knew he was wondering why she was so dressed up, and she let him wonder, enjoying the way he watched her all day.
Things had been going pretty evenly between them in their battles of sexual frustration, but he had won the most recent point by spending the past day leaning against bookshelves with his sleeves rolled up and reading, purposefully being antagonistic.
So, did she intentionally lean forward on the counter every chance she got? Absolutely. She knew every time he got distracted by her rack because his ears would immediately turn red, and he’d mutter a curse to himself, pissed off.
Pissing him off was like foreplay for her, so she was excited for her date, counting down the hours until closing.
Finally, the time arrived. After the store closed, she quickly cleaned up and went to say goodbye to Charles.
“Leaving so soon?” Charles asked as she kissed his cheek.
“Yup,” she said, smiling. “I’ve got a date.”
Grayson nearly broke his neck with the speed at which he whipped his head around to look at her. An evil laugh echoed through her heart. He stalked over.
“You can’t just leave,” he said, a muscle ticking in his jaw. “We have to … clean.”
“As my assistant, you can’t tell me what to do,” she replied, crossing her arms. His gaze dropped to her chest and away. He clenched his jaw.
“But—but—” he stuttered.
She waved a hand. “Go on, shoo.”
He shot Charles an incredulous look. “This is unfair!”
“Oh, quit fussing,” Charles said. “Of course she can go. Have fun, sweetheart.”
“Thanks, byeeee.”
Lucy checked her phone to see she had a text from Tyler; he was here, waiting outside. She glanced back at Grayson, who was frowning to himself.
“You know what? Why don’t you meet him?” Lucy said, turning back to Charles.
“Oh! Sure,” Charles said.
“He’s really great; you’ll love him,” Lucy said. She texted Tyler to come in, going to meet him at the door.
He entered, and her heart skipped a beat. Thank god he looked as cute as he did in his photos.
