I Accidentally Joined a Wolf Shifter Group Chat

“Also continuing.”
“And the crocheting?”
“Dormant but not abandoned.”
Her eyes widened. “Trevor has more active business divisions than some corporations.”
“He also has outstanding debt in at least four of them.”
With her sitting across from me, I saw details I had missed during the reunion and movie night. She made small circles with her fork when thinking and pressed her lips together before delivering a joke she believed might be too much. Every time she laughed hard, her shoulders drew forward and her eyes closed briefly.
I wanted to keep discovering things about her.
We returned to the buffet. The second plate became more strategic. Sloane took smaller portions of anything she hadn’t already tried, then added another four crab rangoon.
I selected meat, rice, dumplings, and several fried items that would have embarrassed anyone pretending to follow nutritional guidelines.
Sloane scowled at my plate. “You have fried chicken, fried shrimp, fried rice, and a fried object neither of us has identified.”
“I’m exploring the cuisine of the East.”
“You’re testing the limits of your cardiovascular system.” She laughed. “Honestly, this reminds me of a guy I saw on YouTube. He’s visiting as many Chinese buffets as he can until he gets food poisoning. The ones that have the lowest ratings are the ones he’s hitting up.”
“My God.” I swallowed my bite. “That sounds dangerous.”
She laughed. “It’s hilarious. He usually gives his final scoring of each restaurant based on their crab rangoon alone.”
We returned to the table. Halfway through the second plate, a laminated sign near the register caught Sloane’s attention.
She narrowed her eyes. “What is that?”
I followed her gaze.
A large photograph showed two men standing beside an enormous platter filled with food. Beneath them, red letters announced:

Sloane slowly lowered her fork.
“No,” I said.
