“You know what Dad’s like, Lil’. He asks me how you’re doing about four times a day!”
A slight exaggeration.
“Could you just tell him that I’m handling it like a boss? That everyone adores me and wants to hire me?”
We both laugh.
“So, I’m going to have to lie to him.”
“Would you do that for your good-for-nothing little sister?”
“Well, you keep plenty of secrets for me,” I murmur. “And you’re not good-for-nothing, Lily, you’re a queen. Not knowing what you want to do with your life at twenty-four isn’t shameful or abnormal. Finding your place in the world can take time, and that’s okay.”
She looks touched by my words and plants a kiss on my cheek.
“I just want you to find something that makes you want to get up in the morning. Something you’re passionate about. Something that lets you be independent.”
“You’re sick of me, is that it? You want me to go live somewhere else?” She gives me her best sad-puppy face.
“You can stay here as long as you want, Lil’. You’re my little ray of sunshine.”
“See, that could be my job: keeping you company!” She laughs as she bites into the last croissant… which was meant for me.
“What about fashion design? You have talent.”
“I’d have to go back to school for that. No thanks!”
“Lily…”
“I know, I know. Okay, I’ll look into finding a school or a training program,” she grumbles, taking out her curlers one by one.
“That look suited you.”
“What, the cauliflower look?”
“Yes.”
“It’s my spirit vegetable. Honestly, it has a bad reputation, but I don’t see what people have against it,” she muses, in the most adorable way possible.
“And I don’t see what anyone could have against you. You’re perfect just the way you are,” I reply, tenderly stroking her cheek.

Five days without you is long. Way too long.
[Alma
Are you finally regretting abandoning me
in that service stairwell?]
[Vadim
You have no idea…]
