“Okay, well, there’s your answer. We both have ways to track her location, but I will not use mine. I’m going to respect her request and give her space. For your safety, I suggest you follow suit.”
I nodded and asked her where she wanted me to drop her off. She had me drop her off at her mom’s house. She looked exhausted. Chase caused all this bullshit because he was a dickhead who only used his dickhead to think.
I called my g-pop to let him know his advice was too late. He told me I was stupid for not manning up day one. He repeated his earlier comment. Give her space, son. She’ll come back when she’s ready.
I wasn’t ready to let her go, even if it was just for a few days. I had to find something to take my mind off of her for now. Otherwise I’d be tracking the location of my Benz. So, I decided to head to Code Red to kick it with my sister. I knew she was gon’ chew my ass out too, but afterward we would drink and bond over our pain-in-the-ass brother.
CHAPTER 23
Justice
MAY 20TH
It’d been two weeks of convincing myself not to track Chase down and whoop his lying, bald-headed, dirty, community-dick-having ass. The only reason I hadn’t left the hotel is the safety of innocent bystanders and the fact that I really don’t want to go back to jail. So, fortunately for all my opps, including Chance, I had to go into hiding. I didn’t trust myself yet.
Also, I had been sick for the past few days
I had been ordering so much room service and DoorDash. I also decided to upgrade to a presidential suite. I had been sipping wine every night as if I was on vacation, and that was why I was feeling sick now.
During my second week at the hotel, I received a few special deliveries I hadn’t ordered. Each day, a different kind of flower arrived with a simple note.
I’m sorry.
I should’ve told you the truth.
Talk to me, Baby.
I miss you. I miss your voice.
Life isn’t the same without you.
I’d kill him. Just say the word.
I love you, Trouble.
I was honestly surprised he hadn’t come knocking yet, or that he ain’t tried calling or texting me. I missed his lying ass so bad, even though I blocked him the first week, but then I took him off the second week since I was feelin’ less homicidal.
Tossing and turning in bed, I tried to get my shit together. I rolled over in the king-sized bed, slapped my hand over my mouth, and threw the covers off. I hopped up and ran to the bathroom, barely making it, but nothing came up. I was over it.
My stomach had been empty since yesterday afternoon, leaving me with nothing but dry heaves, tears streaming down my face. When it finally eased up, I rested my forehead against the cool porcelain. “This is bullshit,” I whispered, feeling exhausted after nearly a week of being sick.
At first, I blamed stress. Then I wondered if it was the hotel food. Eventually, I convinced myself it was the wine. Whatever it was, it really took a toll on me. My head ached, my stomach stayed unsettled, and certain smells made me want to fight someone. Plus, I was constantly tired. Not just regular tired. It was exhaustion that didn’t make sense. I took a slow breath and looked at myself in the mirror. “Girl, you look terrible.”
I washed my face and brushed my teeth, then returned to the bedroom. My phone rested face down on the nightstand. For two weeks, I had been avoiding it like a bomb. Whenever it lit up, my chest tightened.
But now… silence had started to feel a lot like loneliness.
I climbed onto the bed and picked up my phone. For a moment, I gazed at Jamie’s and Sage’s contacts. My thumb lingered over the screen. Pride urged me to ignore it, but my stomach pushed me to do otherwise. This was different from my normal hangovers.
The moment I decided to reach out to my girls, I opened our group chat and typed. I hesitated before sending it, but I pressed send anyway.
I need y’all
And almost instantly, three dots appeared. Sage responded first.
Sage: WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?
Sis: Okay, we are on the way.
