I smiled back at her.
I never thought I’d find another friend like Nina.
We had our shared insecurities and so much in common.
Weirdly, I felt close to Sara even though I knew very little about her history.
“Thank you for being a friend,” I said hesitantly. “I think I need friends in my life.”
“You better haul your butt back here once you’re done in Los Angeles,” she said fiercely as she moved closer and pulled me in for a hug.
I had to blink back the tears that sprang to my eyes as she hugged me tightly, and I wrapped my arms around her to return her embrace.
I’d never realized just how isolated and lonely I’d become before my kidnapping or how much I needed something more than just work, even if my work was a passion for me.
Maybe I didn’t trust easily, but even people with those issues had human wants and needs.
I’d needed this.
I’d needed human contact and kinship.
Another woman to talk to and share things with.
And sometimes, I probably just longed for a damn hug from someone who cared.
Yeah, I definitely needed this woman’s friendship in my life very much.
Chapter 17
Brock
“Question fifty,” Jenna said as she climbed into my bed. “Do you always sleep in sweatpants?”
It was hard to believe that she was already up to question fifty, but she’d been peppering me with questions every chance she had.
She didn’t always use up her questions when she asked me things, but she used them often enough to be halfway through that one hundred she’d asked for.
At this rate, she’d be up to a hundred before our road trip was over.
She was wearing the same nighttime attire she wore every night: sleep shorts and a T-shirt.
Maybe it shouldn’t feel like a wet dream to see her making herself comfortable in my bed, but it was one of the sexiest things I’d ever seen.
“No,” I answered honestly as I lifted the covers.
“I figured,” she said casually.
I lifted a brow. “Why?”
“If you slept in pants on a regular basis, you’d probably have pajama pants. You sleep hot and they’re lighter weight.”
I got into the other side of the bed. “I didn’t think you’d appreciate me sleeping in nothing but my underwear. Therefore, I’m wearing sweatpants.”
She licked her bottom lip a little nervously. “I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.”
It wasn’t the sweatpants I was wearing that made me uncomfortable.
It was having her in my bed.
