I chuckled, shaking my head. It wasn’t like I had anything to do with Milo’s genetics.
After a few minutes, Emmett presented me with a bagel and cream cheese, a cup of fresh, hot coffee on the side. I sipped at the coffee first, but after some time, I found myself nibbling at the bagel too. Emmett sat back down at the table next to me, and I noticed him finishing up a bit of paperwork on his phone before emailing it back.
“Everything okay?” I cocked a brow at him.
“Completely. Just signing a few things. I was thinking movie time after we eat. I don’t know about you, but I could definitely stand to relax a bit longer.”
I smiled, enjoying the idea of a lazy movie day with my guys, Milo included. So, sure enough, we passed the rest of the day with a movie marathon, interrupted by Milo going down for a nap and Emmett getting a bit more work done on his computer while I lounged next to him.
It was wonderful, and the hours flew by. Before I knew it, it was dinnertime.
“I brought Italian,” Tobias said, holding up the plastic bags full of steaming food as he entered the living room, followed shortly by Noah. They had been carpooling a lot recently.
In just a few seconds, the house erupted with conversation and energy.
“I could have cooked!” I said, sitting up and looking between them.
Truthfully, I was starting to feel a little lazy. I adored spending my days with my pack mates and my baby, but I could only recuperate from the heat for so long before I went a little stir-crazy.
“You need rest,” Noah insisted, leaning down and giving me a quick kiss, that scent making my head go fuzzy up close.
“I’m not an invalid,” I muttered, rolling my eyes.
“We don’t think that at all. We just care about you and want you to rest after your heat,” Noah countered, offering a genuine look of care.
Marshall was through the door next, his brows up as he looked around. “Did I miss something?”
I chuckled and shook my head. “No, no. I was just uselessly complaining about being cooked for.”
He snorted, which turned into a laugh as he set his stuff down and came into the living room. After a moment, however, his nostrils flared as he picked up on the delicious smell coming from where Tobias had brought the food into the kitchen.
“What smells so good?”
“Italian!” Tobias called out. “Come and get it!”
Thankfully, he didn’t scream so loud it would wake up Milo early. I was kind of looking forward to more hot food, even if I knew I needed to get him before his nap went on too late. Emmett helped me up, and we all shuffled into the kitchen to dig in.
Seated around the table, I took a helping of lasagna, which was so good, and then I remembered what I’d seen when I had Googled things to do around town for free with a baby.
“Oh, I forgot. There’s a playgroup at the library tomorrow. I was thinking about taking Milo,” I said as I took a bite of pasta.
“That sounds nice,” Tobias agreed.
“Take the car. It looks like it’s going to rain,” Marshall interjected, giving me a look.
“I can take an umbrella.” I beamed. “Milo’s stroller came with a fancy rain cover as well.”
Marshall chuckled, shaking his head. “Are you ever going to use that car?”
“Eventually… Once I get used to it. In my defense, I only learned in a small car. The thing you bought me is closer to a tank.”
All the guys laughed.
“It’s just a safe, mid-sized SUV,” Marshall insisted.
“And this is a small town with small roads! I’m relatively new to this place too. Can you imagine if my first impression on some of the people here is me running over their mailbox? No thank you.”
“That would be quite the reputation.” Noah grinned, taking a bite of his bread stick.
