Kylie knocks once, comes in without waiting, and lies down next to me.
“Were you on FaceTime earlier?” she asks.
I nod. “Yeah, with Elsie and Payton.”
“Those are your best friends?”
“Yeah.”
“Wait,” she says, sitting up on her elbow. “Aren’t you from here?”
I smile softly. “Yeah.”
She shakes her head. “Then where are they?”
“They left for college together, and I went to Woodbury because of my scholarship.”
She nods like she understands. “So, they know Rafe?”
I blink. “No, they went to an all girl’s school.”
“Do they know you’re with him?”
I stare at the ceiling. “I’m not with him.”
Her face drops. “As if, Tess.” She puts a finger up. “I saw you two swapping spit.”
I laugh.
Another finger goes up. “He picked you up off the counter.” She drops her hand. “Oh, do you remember when Nash came to Theo’s and literally carried me out of there?”
“Yeah.”
She rolls her eyes and falls back on the bed. “I thought me and Nash weren’t anything then, too, and trust me when I say, when a man carries you, he’s fucking done for.”
“What does that mean?”
She looks at me sideways. “Gone.”
“That explains nothing.”
“It explains everything.” She rolls onto her side. “Tess, I watched that man drive an hour to an airport, pick me up, drive an hour back, and act like it was nothing because he knew you missed me.”
“He was already picking Nash up.”
“And Koda. Yeah, yeah. Very convenient.”
I look back at the ceiling.
Kylie nudges my leg with hers.
“You know he likes you, right?”
I’m quiet long enough that she lifts her head.
“Tess.”
“I know he cares about me.”
