Where We Stay

Not the sex.

This.

Eventually, I glance at the clock on Blair’s nightstand.

Fuck.

I need to go.

I want to stay here and hold her until the morning sun wakes us. The thought immediately pisses me off, mostly because of how much I mean it.

Blair shifts against my chest. “Everything okay?”

I clear my throat, already hating what I have to say. “I need to head home.”

She pulls back slightly, and for half a second, something flickers across her face.

“Oh.”

The disappointment disappears almost immediately, but not quickly enough for me to miss it.

“Pen’s staying with Mom and Dad tonight,” I explain. “They’re dropping her home early tomorrow, and I need to be there before they arrive.”

Blair’s expression softens. “Of course. That’s completely fine.”

I climb out of bed and start searching for the clothes we threw across the room.

When I turn around, Blair is openly watching me.

“Like what you see, Miss Morgan?” I ask, raising a brow.

“Just appreciating the view.” She gives me a shameless smile.

I shake my head, pulling on the rest of my clothes before she convinces me to climb straight back into bed.

Blair walks me to the front door wrapped in nothing but her bed sheet. The sight makes leaving significantly more difficult than it already was.

I cup her cheek and press a slow kiss to her lips.

“This isn’t me running, Blair,” I tell her. “I’ll text you when I get home, and I’ll call tomorrow.”

Her hazel eyes meet mine. “I know.”

“Do you?”

She turns her face into my palm, pressing a soft kiss against it. “Go be a dad, Mr. Ashford.”

The small smile on her lips finally settles something inside me.

I kiss her again.

Then once more, because apparently I can’t fucking help myself.

“Goodnight, Miss Morgan,” I murmur.

“Goodnight, Mr. Ashford.”

I’ve barely made it out of her driveway before I catch myself grinning.
