“You can always call me. And I’ll always come. No matter what.”
And I guess that was why I called in the first place. I knew he would come. I knew he would handle the situation and take care of me.
“Did the guys find who it was?”
“It got too risky to keep chasing them. There were no plates on the car. There were two guys. That’s about all we got. But we will get more.”
“How?”
“The club has a friend who can hack into traffic cameras and some security cameras. He will see where they went. Maybe get a better look at the guys. We can go from there. I’m not gonna be satisfied until we locate the bastards.”
I believed him.
He and the rest of the club would figure it out. I didn’t have to worry about that part.
“Those were brand new tires,” I said, exhaling.
“We’re not going to worry about the money right now.”
That was easy for him to say.
He had enough of it.
He had a place to live, a job, no medical bills, a complete lack of attorney fees.
“You’re worrying about the money.”
“I don’t even want to think about the medical bills…”
“You’re not divorced.”
“What?”
“You’re not divorced yet. Perry can’t drop you from his insurance until there is a major life change. Like a divorce. Your medical bills are covered until the divorce is final.”
“Are you sure?”
“Almost certain. You could ask your attorney, but my ex-wife was on my plan until the ink was dry. Only then did I have a reason to drop her off the plan.”
Well, that was… one thing.
“What else is there? The car?”
“Yeah.”
“You’re insured?”
“Yes.”
“It was totaled. You will get paid.”
“But I won’t get much for that car.”
“Probably not, no. But the club owns a repair shop. There’s always some junker they are training the young bloods on. They usually donate them when they’re done. I can get you one. It would be better than buying from some used car lot. Everything in it would be redone.”
“I can’t ask—”
“You’re not asking. I’m offering. It’s all but done. You might even get to choose between models. If you insist, you can even pay whatever you get from your insurance payout. But I’m telling you now that they won’t take it.”
