Har turned up a hand. “You got seven other brothers here if you want them to weigh in, Volt.”

From the back corner of the room, Roll asked, “Did you count my vote?”

“You didn’t raise your hand,” Blood said.

“You didn’t see it.”

“Really?” Blood asked.

“He had my back when he was a prospect. Least I can fuckin’ do is have his back now,” Roll said.

Volt banged the gavel. “Tundra keeps his patch.”

“Please, God, put your damn shirt back on,” Yak said.

“Give it a rest, Yak,” Punc said.

“Somebody’s gotta alleviate the tension around here, it’s excruciating,” Yak said.

I tugged my shirt back on, then slid on my cut.

“We don’t vote on members taking an old lady,” Volt said, looking at Lark.

“They do in Memphis,” Lark said.

“Then go back to Memphis,” I muttered.

“Don’t know why you got a beef with me, but this ain’t the time,” Lark said.

With his fingers to his lips, Cal gave a harsh whistle.

Volt nodded at him. “All right, as for the breech of contract, we aren’t voting on it until everyone has read the contract subsection.”

“Would we wait to vote on this if it were me, Nickel, or Ricochet who hooked up with a customer?” Lark asked.

I wanted to throttle Lark in the worst way.

“Yeah, we would if the only grounds were the contract language,” Blood said.

Patch cleared his throat. “I’d rather not revisit this contentious topic when we meet again. Why not have Cal read the damn thing to us, and we can decide now.”

Volt looked to Blood and then Cal, after a moment, he tipped his head toward Lark. “Pass it down here.”

Cal read the legal stipulations of the sexual harassment clause. Like a lot of civil related legal issues, this could be argued both ways.

“Everyone ready to vote, or does anyone need time?” Volt asked.

Punc shook his head. “I got a question first. From that wording, wouldn’t Nickel’s woman have to stay away from the bar? He hasn’t put a cut on her yet, they aren’t married, so they’re technically in a romantic relationship.”

Nickel’s jaw ticked. “I didn’t use the bar to—”

“She came in there looking for Lark, but if she hadn’t, you’d have never met her. It could be construed that you’re in violation, too,” Punc said.

“This isn’t about me,” Nickel said.

Punc nodded. “You’re right, but I’m pointing out how easy it is for this shit to be turned on either of you four.”

The room went silent. Volt called for the vote, this time starting with those in favor of terminating Mickayla’s employment at On a Lark. Five brothers voted yes, and I wasn’t sure I would be able to forgive them. Volt, Cal, and Patch I understood since they were officers and likely had dealings with the club attorney to draw up the agreement. Lark surprised me, but he was acting out of character any damn way. Nickel voting to oust his own sister left an especially bitter aftertaste.
