“Thirsty?” Zeke’s nervous laughter sounded strained. “You’re not eating much.”

“Not very hungry.” I filled my glass again.

Zeke looked at his half-empty bowl and then at me.

“What?”

He cleared his throat. “N-nothing.” He looked away and started eating again.

Silence settled over the kitchen again.

Cyn’s gaze met mine across the table.

The heated look he gave me sent a shiver through me, and I pulled in a breath, rolling my shoulders to try to hide it.

His mouth curved slightly when he noticed how he affected me.

I pressed my thighs together when a surge of need hit me as he looked down and licked sauce from his lower lip.

He cursed under his breath, and Zeke shifted in his seat.

I slumped back in my chair and lifted my hair off my neck, dropping my head back.

It was too damn hot to be getting worked up over a walking red flag.

“Rae?”

“Mm?”

“Are you asleep?”

I opened my eyes to find all three of them staring at me. Their bowls and plates sat empty.

Had I drifted off?

I rubbed my face and tugged the front of my shirt away from my skin. “I’m awake.”

“For fuck’s sake.” Cyn stood and took his dishes to the sink.

“Raelynn.” Ezra’s stern voice stole my attention from Cyn’s departure. “Did you drink alcohol today?”

My brow furrowed. “What? No.”

“Have you taken anything?”

“Like?”

“Kavina didn’t take you anywhere other than the dress boutique, did she?”

“Well, yeah. We went for lunch at a burger place.”

I couldn’t grasp what he was getting at—especially with the rising temperature in the room. Didn’t Zeke turn the air on?

Ezra sniffed. “What are you feeling?”

“Confused.”

Cyn turned from the sink and leaned against the counter, crossing his arms. “He’s asking if you took drugs.”
