Ryan turned too late, his mouth brushing the corner of mine. I laughed and escaped his arm before he could decide whether to finish the kiss.
The photograph slid from the camera. His expression in the image was perfect—startled, irritated, and already turning toward me while I smiled against his cheek.
I took it from the employee.
Ryan held out his hand. “Give me that.”
“No.”
“You assaulted the best man.”
“You survived.”
“That photograph is evidence.”
“It may be audited.”
“By whom?”
“Me.”
He stepped toward me.
I tucked it into the front of my shorts beside the map.
Ryan stopped.
I smiled sweetly. “Come get it.”
His eyes darkened with enough heat to curl my toes inside my shoes. “You keep offering things you aren’t prepared to surrender.”
“Maybe I enjoy watching you suffer.”
“Keep pushing, mami.”
“Or what?”
Ryan closed the distance until the basket pressed between us. He lowered his mouth beside my ear, allowing the rough brush of his voice to move across my skin.
“Voy a meterte en el primer cuarto vacío que encuentre, bajarte esos putos shorts y enseñarte lo bien que se siente cuando muerdo.”
My knees nearly gave out.
He would put me inside the first empty room he found, drag down my fucking shorts, and show me exactly how good his bite felt.
Ryan straightened, took the completed basket from my hand, and walked toward the finish line without looking back.
I remained beside the table while the employee pretended to organize the challenge cards.
“Are you all right?” she asked.
“No.”
Ryan glanced over his shoulder. “You coming, Captain?”
I pressed my thighs together and followed him.
By the time we returned to the eastern lawn, several teams had finished. Rider and Elenore sat comfortably beneath an umbrella drinking lemonade with Harrison, their completed basket at their feet. Easton and Aura argued with an employee over a deduction involving a damaged hedge. Briggs had lost another wooden heart, Lyric had abandoned their yellow basket beside the fountain, and three Bennett brothers were accusing Cade of abusing his relationship with the woman who designed the hunt.
