She emphasizes the syllables.
“Like, greed,” Hazel points out helpfully.
I nod but I’m still frowning. Half a huge glass of wine is affecting me more than I thought.
“Del, what the hell are you talking about?”
Del giggles, delighted, and pulls out a white business card.
Season’s Greedings. Where all your holiday wishes come true.
I turn it over in my hand. On the back is a website link.
“What is this?”
“Some new company,” Del says excitedly. “You pay them five hundred bones and they grant three wishes.”
“Three wishes?”
Hazel sighs. “She’s been going on about this for weeks.”
Del huffs. “It could be fun! And this is the perfect opportunity to try it!”
“I don’t know about that,” Hazel muses.
Del stomps her foot, picking at the sleeve of her oversized hoodie.
“Come on! We’ve saved the money. And Margo deserves a great holiday after all this.”
“A company that grants wishes?” I stare at Del as if she’s sprouted another pair of arms. “You can’t be serious. Besides, I don’t have five hundred bucks to drop on wishes.”
“None of us do,” Del agrees. “But if we go in together…”
“You want me to be a guinea pig?”
Del gives me a sheepish smile. “Kind of. But I really think this will be good for you, Margo! Definitely not boring.”
She nudges me with her shoulder and I let out a long breath.
“Give me back my wine and get my laptop.”
Del grins widely and rushes to get my laptop while Hazel reluctantly hands back my wine glass.
It takes me only one try to type in the website on the back of the card. Take that, wine.
The website pops up. Simple. White background, black letters.
Season’s Greedings. Where all your holiday wishes come true.
Then another line, capitalized and bolded: ALL SALES FINAL.
“There’s not much information here.” I click around the page but there’s only a payment form and then a questionnaire.
I skim the first question.
What is your first wish? Any kinks you’d like explored?
I blink. “Uh…”
