"Dragon?" I said.
"Yeah, and you?" He asked.
"Tulip."
"I said who the fuck you talking to?" Said the big black man.
Dragon smiled. He looked behind him.
"Hey, asshole, put your mask on, we're not alone," he said.
"Watch it, man. Don't no one call Number One an asshole, you got that?"
Number One reached for a black mask that had been laid on a counter. Before he put it on, I saw that his face was brutal and scary, yet in its own way, ruggedly handsome.
Number One looked out at me from his mask as he straightened it.
"So what do we have here?" He said.
"She's Tulip," Dragon said.
"Tulip? Well, you don't say." Number One called to me. "Please to meet you."
Number One then went on drying himself off with his towel.

gon looked at Number One, then back at me. He came in a little closer.
"Have you been crying?" Dragon asked, sweetly.
I shrugged.
Then, Number One strode into the room past Dragon. He came right up to the bed and looked at me. Then he sat down right next to me.
The whole bed sagged under his weight, which caused me to nearly slide into him.
"Of course, she been crying. You blind Dragon?" he said.
Dragon rolled his eyes.
Number One touched my hair, pushing it out of my eyes.
"But that's okay," he said. "Because Number One and Dragon here are gonna fix that sad little face and make it happy."
I shifted away from him. I didn't know what he had in mind.
"It's all right, girl," he said. "Number One ain't gonna hurt you. No, Number One is a real nice guy. Just ask Dragon here. Number One will make you feel real good...you just gotta give him a chance."
Dragon stared at Number One, dumbfounded.
"What you looking at, Dragon?" He said. "What's wrong with you, anyway? Ain't you never seen prime young meat like this before? Or do you only swing one way?"
"Fuck you, man. She's clearly upset," said Dragon. "Give her some room."
Number One looked at me then.
"I ain't given you a hard time, am I?" He said. "I'm mean, being prime young meat ain't nothing to be ashamed of. Proud is more like it."
