“You’re gonna pay for that, you little minx. How about we see how fast my mouth can shut you up.” His lips drag down my belly. He hasn’t even made it to my sex, and I’m already about to lose it. He tears at my panties, then tosses them over his shoulder. I can’t help but giggle at the seriousness on his face as he bends down, spreading my thighs. I close my eyes, waiting for the pure ecstasy of his tongue, when a loud banging echoes from the front door.

Logan’s body tenses on top of me. The banging stops then starts up again, and he jumps out of bed, the heat of his body gone. “Get dressed. Stay in here until I come back.” He throws on a pair of joggers, then pulls a gun from his nightstand and slides it into his waistband at his back.

“Logan—”

“Just fucking do it, Addy.” He’s gone before I can argue, and I hurry off the bed in search of my clothes. My tank top is draped over the chair in the corner. My eyes scan the room while I toss it over my head and find my underwear next to the bed. I slip into those just as the door bangs open. A squeal leaves my lips as Chino walks in.

“Well, well…looks like I’m too late for the peep show. Any chance you wanna start over and dress a bit slower for me? Maybe a repeat show of that naughty blow—”

The sound of a gun cocking echoes and my eyes dart to Logan. Standing behind Chino, he holds his gun to his head. “This ain’t the bathroom, motherfucker.”

Chino shrugs, his smug smile in place. “My bad. Wrong door. If you’ll excuse me.” He turns and brushes past Logan.

Logan’s eyes burn holes into mine, his stare a mixture of anger and possessiveness. “Get dressed. We have guests.” And he’s gone again.

I throw myself into my jeans and rush down the hall, stalling in my step. Vincent is standing in his living room.

“There she is. Logan has been keeping you all to himself. Thought I would ask to borrow you for the day.” I’m frozen in place, my eyes drifting from him to Logan. Logan is a few feet away, leaning against the wall, his expression blank, giving me no indication of what I should say or do.

“Um, we were actually going to go—”

“It wasn’t a suggestion. Logan, I need you to take care of the west end. Seems we have some people who are having trouble paying on time.”

“Have Chino do it,” he says as Chino walks back into the room.

“Nah. Got my own special project for today—one you couldn’t finish.” He throws his chin at Logan. Logan’s eyes narrow, and he crosses his arms over his chest. He stares back at Chino, but there’s a tightness to it. He’s holding back from saying something. What special project is he talking about?

“The white Saint Lauren silk blouse I bought you the other day would pair lovely with the tan Balenciaga slacks. I’ll wait while you dress,” Vincent says, looking down at his watch as if my opinion isn’t even up for discussion. The problem is, the brave girl chasing a story is long gone. My gut squeezes tight, telling me to speak up and tell him no. Refuse to offer myself to the lion standing before me. My indecision grows like weeds inside my chest. I need to find a way out of—

“Don’t just stand there. Jesus, go. I got shit to do.” Logan cuts off my internal debate and pushes off the wall. “Have her back by dinner. Shit ain’t gonna cook itself.” As if he couldn’t care less, he hands me over to the monster he’s created in my head and disappears into the kitchen.

What the heck?

Thanks for nothing.

Taking an imaginary hacksaw, I slice away at my hesitancy and turn to Vincent, slapping on a cheeky smile. “To the bat cave.”

I can’t chop at my uncertainty quick enough. My nerves are sprouting so fast, their vines are twisting around my neck and cutting off my air supply. Vincent sits calmly next to me, tapping his fingers against his thigh. Each thump makes me jump in my seat.

“Addy—”

“So! Where we headed?” That came out way too eager. Calm down, Addy.

“To the best steakhouse in Chicago,” he replies, and my brows raise in surprise. Steak? It’s still practically breakfast. I say no more and lean back, watching the suburbs disappear as the busy city comes into view. The silence allows my mind to jump into overdrive, wondering what Vincent’s intentions are. There’s a battle brewing inside me. Do I listen to Logan’s warnings or follow this lead? I swallow back my nerves and inhale deeply. This could be a good thing. Gain information. Anything that could help save those girls.
