I looked at my auntie Sky as she ran her hands through her hair and walked over to me. She took a seat at the foot of the bed. Her demeanor was calm, so I knew she wasn’t going to start yelling at me for what I just expressed to her.

“You don’t want to go because you’re not trying to face reality, that’s all that is. Reality is that your little brother is still alive, even after taking a bullet to the chest. What you need to realize is that reality could have been way different. Instead of preparing ourselves to go and see him at the hospital today, we could have all been preparing ourselves to plan a funeral for him. I don’t want to be the one to sit here and preach to you because I already know that you have to be beating yourself up over this, but you’re thirteen, Journey, almost fourteen, so you need to make better decisions.

“I don’t know who this man is that you’re running around trying to sneak and be with, but if I must say so myself, you ain’t been the same since. Granted, you were always a handful, but it was never to this extreme. You have a little brother and a little sister who look up to you, so ask yourself if you’re the role model that they should be looking up at. I love you like I birthed you, but you gotta do better,” she said, and I nodded. At the same time, a tear fell from my eye, and I didn’t even bother to wipe it away. She was about to stand up from the bed, but I cleared my throat, so I could ask her something.

“What about Mommy? You think she still loves me?” I asked her. This was a question that I had been dying to ask for the past two days but was just too afraid.

“What? Don’t be silly, Journey. That’s your mother. How could she not? Just like me and everyone else, she’s just disappointed in you. If my sister loves anybody in this damn world, I know for a fact that she loves all three of her bad ass kids,” she said, getting me to laugh a little bit.

“She’s just going through a lot right now. You’re old enough to know that your mother and your father are having trouble right now in their marriage, and now she has to add Jaden getting shot on top of that, so if anything, she’s just stressed. That ass whipping that she put on you the other day, you needed that! I think everyone in this family can vouch and say that you needed that because your little ass needs to get brought back down to reality. You have two parents who love you more than anything, Journey. A lot of children don’t have that. Two wealthy parents at that. I would have died to have the lifestyle that you have when I was growing up. You have it, so stop taking the shit for granted and stop giving your parents a hard time, alright?” she asked me, and I nodded.

We talked for a little while longer, and then she finally left the room. Since I’ve pretty much been in the room all day, lounging around, I went to the bathroom that was down the hall and took a quick shower before we headed to the hospital. It didn’t take me but twenty minutes to get ready because since I wasn’t feeling my best, I didn’t bother to dress my best. Before I knew it, we were jumping in my auntie’s jeep, and we were headed in the direction of the hospital. I prayed to God that my mother wasn’t there, even though I knew she would be because she hadn’t left since she came there and that was two days ago. I was scared to come around her for whatever reason.

After about fifteen minutes of driving, we finally parked the car in the parking garage and headed toward the hospital. Any other time we came to the hospital, I felt like the line to check in was so long, but today, it was clear of anyone, so before I knew it, we were getting on the elevator. I breathed a sigh the second we were outside his door, and I assumed my auntie must have caught on to my nervousness because she placed her hand on my shoulder and gave it a quick squeeze right before she opened the door.

We were finally inside the cold hospital room, and the first thing that I noticed was that my mom’s back was facing us, and she was dipping a wash cloth into a small container. It didn’t take long for me to realize that she was giving my little brother his bath. I quickly walked in, and that’s when I realized that Jaden was up. Any other time, he was asleep, but today, he was up and alert. He had this annoyed expression on his face, looking every bit of our mom, even though everyone always told him that he looked like our dad.

“Maaa, hurry up! You showing everybody my stuff!” Jaden said in an annoyed way, making my mom laugh.

My grandmother was sitting in the corner, and she ended up laughing too along with auntie Sky.

“Boy, what stuff?” she asked right before she leaned over and kissed his little cheek.

Say what you want, but my little brother absolutely adored our mother. I could just see it in the way his eyes sparkled right after she kissed his cheek. He wanted to act all mad, but I knew that kiss meant the world to him.

“I’m almost done. Just give me a second,” she said as she used the washcloth to wash his face.

It took about five minutes before my mother was finally done bathing him. She knew that I was in the room, but she had yet to say anything to me. That’s usually how it was whenever the two of us were around each other. I didn’t say anything; I just watched as she put brand new pajamas on Jaden, careful not to touch the area where he’d been shot.

“Hey, Mama,” I finally said to her once she was done and had taken a seat on the chair that was sitting next to Jaden’s bed.

“Journey,” was all she said.

I didn’t expect her to be over it, but damn, could I get a hug or something? My auntie just swore to me that my mother still loved me, but I honestly couldn’t see it. My mom could hold a grudge. I had watched her hold grudges against my father for so many years. What she didn’t know was that I was her child, and I had a lot of her habits, so I could hold a grudge too. I knew that two wrongs didn’t make a right, but if this was what our level of communication was going to be reduced to, then so be it. If she wanted to act like I didn’t exist, then I could do the same thing.

I didn’t bother to say anything else to her, I just walked over on the other side of Jaden’s bed and grabbed his little hand in mine then kissed the back of it. He smiled at my gesture, and I could tell from how weak his eyes were that he was tired as well.

“I’m sorry, Jaden,” I voiced to him. This wasn’t the first time that I’d apologized, but it was the first time that I said it to him while he was awake.

“For what? I came outside trying to protect you. You’re older, but I’m your brother, and I’m supposed to always protect you and Jada. I rather this happened to me than you or Jada,” he said.

I couldn’t even say that I was shocked to hear my five-year-old little brother say something like that. He was five years old in a 35-year old man’s body. You couldn’t tell Jaden that he wasn’t everyone in this family’s protector because to him, he was. I hated that my brother felt like he had to get himself shot in order to protect me, but I didn’t dare say anything to correct him because I wanted him to have his moment. I wanted him to feel like the superman that he was, even though reality is that it would never be okay for him to try to risk his life in an attempt to save mine. It should be the other way around.

“Shitttt, this pussy is goodddd.” I groaned and threw my head back on the head rest of my Rolls Royce as I received the ride of a lifetime from Valentina.

I think the reason Valentina’s pussy was so good was that I knew what I was doing was wrong, so it made the sex ten times better. I told my wife a few days ago that her pussy was better than Valentina’s, but honestly, I didn’t know anymore because the two of them were running neck and neck at this point. Ever since the morning that Valentina came to my house to check up on me because my mom had sent her, I couldn’t keep my dick out o

f her pussy or her mouth, for that matter. Crazy how when Shrimp and I were still living together and everything, I made like I didn’t have enough time in the day to fuck my wife, but when it came to Valentina, I’d pull my dick out in a second to dick her down.

She was my fun girl, and I liked that about her. She made me take risks and do things that I never dreamed of doing. Like, right now, we were parked on the sixth floor in the parking garage of my job and going at it like we were damn porn stars. She had popped up on me a couple of hours ago when I was heading out the building to get something to eat. We ended up picking up food from Chipotle since we both loved it, and we sat in the parking lot of the restaurant eating it and just catching up. Before I knew it, a whole hour had gone by with us just talking. Once the conversation had ended, I drove us back to the parking garage, and what was supposed to be nothing more than a goodbye kiss ended up with her on my lap riding me like I was supposed to pay her for her services when she was done.

“Hmmmm, Papiiii… I’m gonnna cummmm… I’m gonnnaa cummmm,” she screamed.

At the same time, my phone rang through the car. As we both released big ass orgasms together, I looked at the screen, only to see that it was my wife calling me. I knew she was calling with some bullshit because that was honestly the only time her ass ever called in the first place. I was trying my best to catch my breath when the phone stopped ringing, only for her to call me again. Since Takari and I were no longer together like she thought, she wasn’t the type to be sweating me, hunting me down, or trying to see where I was, so I quickly picked up the phone because it could have been an emergency.
