I put my finger to my lips, telling Valentina to be quiet. She nodded, letting me know that she understood. When the phone connected, she leaned her head closer to me and started kissing my neck. Any other time, I would have enjoyed that shit, but I thought back to a few days ago when I came around my wife with hickies and shit on my neck, and I saw firsthand how hot that shit made Takari. So, I gently pushed Valentina’s head out the way, telling her to chill on that.

I had to put myself in Takari’s shoes, and once I did, I realized that if she were to have come to me with a whole bunch of hickies on her neck, I probably would have lost it too. I literally was in the middle of Valentina’s pussy when I got the call from Takari’s mom telling me that my son had been shot, which was why I came to the hospital all late.

“What’s up, Shrimp?” I asked.

At the same time, I watched Valentina’s movements, as she climbed off my lap and back into the passenger seat. She went in of the middle console and pulled out a few of the napkins that I kept in there, so she could wipe that wet pussy of hers off.

“Are you fuckin’ stupid or what? You know I’m at the hospital with Jaden all day and that I don’t want to leave him, so you agreed to pick Jada up from school today, since my mom had something to do and Sky is at work. Why did I just get a phone call from Jada’s school saying that she hasn’t been picked up yet? School let out almost two hours ago, Jerrod! Where the fuck are you?” she screamed into the phone, sounding like a damn mad woman.

Granted, she had every right to be mad because I did agree to pick Jada up from school. It’s just that when Valentina came around, I’d forgotten all about that.

“Shit! We had a meeting today at the job, and it ran over. I’m about to head over there now to get her. I’m sorry, alright?” I asked, but it was too late because she’d already ended the phone call.

I cursed myself out in my head because Valentina didn’t drive to my job. She’d taken an Uber, and it would be pretty fucked up of me to just put her ass out the car, especially after the great few hours that she and I had just finished having. As disrespectful as it was, I would have to bring her with me to pick up Jada from school.

“Ride with me right quick to get my daughter. If she asks who you are, just let her know that you’re a friend from work,” I let Valentina know as I fixed myself up because my dick was still out from our fuck session.

I could look in her face and tell that she was annoyed. I knew it was only a matter of time before she spoke up and let me know what was bothering her. Since Valentina and I had been fuckin’ each other, we’d yet to have any arguments because we knew what it was when it came to what she and I had going on. I referred to what we had as nothing more than me just fuckin’ her because that’s exactly what it was. I thought she was a very attractive woman with a good head on her shoulders, both literally and figuratively, but the fact remained that she was just something to do while my wife and I went through this tough time in our marriage. Before she dropped down to her knees and gave me head and before she opened her legs for me, she knew my situation. She knew that I was married with three kids, so this look of annoyance that was on her face, I didn’t know where the hell that was coming from, especially when I didn’t owe her any loyalty because I hadn’t been promising her ass shit!

“That’s all I am to you, Jerrod? A friend? I thought you and I were working on something. I don’t want to sound delusional or even crazy for that matter, but when you pillow talk me at night, you make it seem like you and Takari are over. Yes, I knew that you were married with kids in the beginning, but you also let me know that your marriage was in crumbles and that a divorce was near. What’s the update on the divorce? I didn’t move down to Miami to be sneaking around and fuckin’ a married man. I’m a beautiful woman who can have just about any man I want. Please be honest with me, so I can know what move I need to make,” Valentina said.

I respected her feelings, but this was just a conversation that I didn’t desire to have right now. She deserved some answers, so I ran my hand down my head, released a sigh, and prepared myself to feed her more of the bullshit that I’d been feeding her for the past few months. Valentina had a different upbringing than Takari did. Just like myself, she grew up wealthy, and she was green to a lot of things. Since that was the case, I could lie to her and tell her that the sky was purple, and she would still believe me. With my wife, she was both street smart and book smart, so it was almost impossible to ever lie to her about anything. Call it what you want, but I took advantage of the fact that I could tell Valentina anything and still be able to get away with it.

“A divorce is near. I sent the paperwork to her and everything. I’m just waiting for her to sign it. It’s like she refuses to sign it. I also wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m hiding you, I’m just not ready to bring you around yet. Takari and I haven’t been split up for that long, so can you imagine how I’m going to look already bringing a new woman around?

“You can affiliate me with a lot of things, but I’m not trying to look like a cheater. If I bring you around, they’re going to swear up and down that I’ve been fuckin’ you this whole time, and I don’t want that. Ride it out with me, baby. I promise it won’t be this way forever,” I said then lifted her hand and held it in mine before I kissed the back of it.

Everything that I had just finished saying to her was pretty much a lie. Yes, divorce papers had been drawn up, but that shit came from Takari’s lawyer, and it was me who was taking my precious time signing them. Truth be told, I didn’t plan to ever sign that shit either. Takari was property to me, and I felt like I owned her ass, so I’d be a silly fool to just sign her pretty ass away. We were just going through a tough patch in our marriage right now, and that wasn’t enough for me to just throw the towel in. A gun would have to be pointed to my head in order for me to sign shit, and I put that on all my kids.

I assumed that Valentina was letting all the words that I had just said to her settle in because she had yet to say anything else to me on the ride over to Jada’s school. I didn’t bother to speak up or saying anything else about the topic for that matter because nothing else needed to be said. We were two grown ass adults who knew what the fuck we were doing, and I wasn’t about to apologize to her ass for having a wife and kids when she knew that shit from the gate. At the end of the day, the only woman who deserved some type of apology from me was my wife because I knew that I had hurt her time and time again in this marriage.

“Hold on. Give me five minutes,” I said as I got out of the car and left it on for her while I jogged to the entryway of the school to get Jada.

I quickly made my way to the cafeteria where they held all the students who stayed for aftercare. When I walked inside, there were only about six kids left, including my baby. I took one good look at Jada, and she shot daggers at me with her big eyes, looking every inch of her evil ass mama. I laughed nervously to myself because, for a second, her little ass had me scared just by the way that she’d looked at me. I guess I thought she was Takari for a minute.

Any other time I picked my baby girl up from school, she would take off running in my direction, ready to leap in my arms, but she didn’t do any of that. She just quickly threw her backpack over her shoulders and walked over to me as I stood at the desk signing her out. As mad as she called herself being with me, I still picked her little body up in my arms, placed a few kisses on her face, and carried her out of the building.

“Let me talk to you before you get in the car. First off, I’m sorry for being late. Daddy had a meeting that ran over, and I forgot that it was my turn to come and get you today from school. I have my friend in the car with me from work, so please be nice when you get in. I have to head back to the office, so I’m going to drop you off at the hospital, so you can be with mommy and see your brother. I need you to keep a secret for Daddy, though,” I said.

She looked at me like I wasn’t doing anything to her but spitting a bunch of bullshit.

&nbs

p; “Don’t tell mommy that I had my friend in the car, alright? You know she’s going to get mad at me,” I told Jada.

She looked at me for a few seconds with those hazel eyes that resembled mine, and I could see the disappointment. Seeing her look at me like that, I’m not going to lie, it did something to me. It made me feel like I was a bad person. Like, not only was I letting Takari down, but I also had to add Jada to my list as well.

“If you know that it’s going to make Mommy mad, then why would you have a friend in the car with you?” her little ass had the nerve to ask me.

I couldn’t even respond to her question. Jada was young, but she had an old soul. Since she was a baby, people had been telling us that she had to have been here before because she was just too wise for her age. Most five year olds would have agreed and kept this a secret between us, but Jada knew that what I was doing was wrong, and I couldn’t fool her with the shit that I was trying to pull right under her nose.

Now that I think about it, I should have just gotten Valentina’s ass that Uber like I planned to do in the beginning, but noooo, I wanted to have respect for her. I carried Jada to the car and placed her in the backseat. It wasn’t shocking to me that she ignored Valentina when Valentina turned to speak to her. All I could say in my daughter’s defense was that she was indeed her mother’s child.

The entire ride over to the hospital, I stole little glances at Jada in the backseat, and if looks could kill, Valentina would have been dead because Jada was shooting some mean daggers at her with her eyes. She didn’t even know this lady, but I could bet my last dollar that she already hated her. The tension in the car was so damn thick that you could cut it with a knife. I was so damn relieved when we finally pulled up to the hospital.

I kept the car on for Valentina, and just me and Jada got out of the car together. It didn’t take us long to get checked in, and because we’d been coming to this hospital for the past week to see Jaden, Jada pretty much knew her way around and was walking fast as shit the second we got off the elevator. Lord knows I didn’t want to go into the room to face Takari, but I couldn’t come down there and not go in the room because I had to see my son.

As soon as I walked into the room, I noticed that Jaden was in taking his nap. Takari was sitting in the chair next to him. I expected her to jump down my throat the second I walked through the door, but she surprised me when she didn’t say shit. Her silence spoke volumes to me, though. Jada stood next to the bed holding on Jaden’s hand and whispering something in his ear. I knew my baby girl was ready for her twin to get out of that bed and come home where he belonged.
